Depuis la dernière édition, près de deux décennies ce sont écoulées, avec leur cortège de publications et d'expositions rendant hommage au paysagiste emblématique de la "modernité" que fut Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994). Le présent ouvrage, qui est le premier en langue française consacré à Burle Marx, donne largement la parole au grand paysagiste brésilien. Les grandes catégories esthétiques (plans colorés, jeux de lumières, formes géométriques, verticalité) et écologiques de son travail (associations végétales, diversité botanique, jardin naturel, écosystème) y sont analysées par les différents contributeurs. Dans une nouvelle préface, Jacques Leenhardt évoque les perspectives qui se sont fair jour ces dernières années autour de l'oeuvre de Burle Marx, tant au Brésil qu'en Europe.
