Résumé:
For 20 years, Giuliana Michelotti has designed fashion, objects and jewelry of uncommon organic sensuality in collaboration with such leading firms as Valentino, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Christian Lacroix. Always a passionate and inquisitive traveler, Michelotti has been as influenced by the tribal and ethnic traditions of Asia and Africa as the contemporary trends of her native Italy or current home, New York City. In 1995 Michelotti launched her own line of jewelry inspired by nature and the sea. All of the pieces in the GM collection are cast in silver using an ancient Indian “lost wax” technique. The stones are uncut and natural, worn by rain and sand. Shells and madrepores eroded by waves, corals ramified in infinite ways, sticks and small rocks--in Michelotti’s hands, these humble organic materials are transformed into necklaces, bracelets and earrings of such highly refined shape and physical lightness that one cannot mistake them for anyone else’s work. With an essay by The New York Times’ revered style editor, Stefano Tonchi, this volume features exquisite close-up photographs of Michelotti’s jewelry, and details the life and creative path of an artist who has achieved an extraordinarily sophisticated aesthetic synthesis

Adhesive tapes have recently been used more and more in design projects. TAPE shows the variety of work being done with this material and takes readers on a delightful journey through the world of sticky creativity. The book features artwork in which tape is used illustratively. Because patterns are a popular theme in design right now, it also presents examples of interiors, fashion, furniture and architecture in which tape is used to create them. The images of the diverse, often humorous artwork and designs are supplemented by texts expounding on adhesive tape’s phenomenal range of application. These include a (not completely) tongue-in-cheek list of 211 uses for duct tape from the USA, the country that invented the saying "God made the world, but it’s held together with duct tape". TAPE is rounded out with information about the featured artists and designers, who work and have fun with adhesive tapes.

Résumé:
This is a unique look at a group of international artists who place craft at the heart of their practice, transforming everyday subjects and ordinary materials into works that are out of the ordinary. The book features unusual works including the ephemeral ice and chocolate jewellery of Naomi Filmer, the almost hidden installations by Yoshihiro Suda, thread and lace-work of Anne Wilson and found metal sculptures by Olu Amoda. These innovative artists show that craft is a fundamental concern across many disciplines, and this redirection of materials and traditional techniques and use of scale achieves extraordinary outcomes.

Résumé:
This book is a timely and engaging introduction to the way that artists working in all media think about craft. Workmanship is key to today's visual arts, when high 'production values' are becoming increasingly commonplace. Yet craft's centrality to contemporary art has received little serious attention from critics and historians. Dispensing with clichéd arguments that craft is art, Adamson persuasively makes a case for defining craft in a more nuanced fashion. The interesting thing about craft, he argues, is that it is perceived to be 'inferior' to art. The book consist of an overview of various aspects of this second-class identity, supplementarity, sensuality, skill, the pastoral, and the amateur. It also provides historical case studies analyzing craft's role in a variety of disciplines, including architecture, design, contemporary art, and the crafts themselves. Thinking through Craft will be essential reading for anyone interested in craft or broader visual art.

Résumé:
This showcase of new jewellery offers a global view of exciting work from 200 cutting-edge jewellery designers. Highlighting the diverse forms that contemporary jewellery takes, from simple wedding or commitment rings, to elaborate body jewellery that blurs the boundaries between art and adornment, to catwalk jewellery specially commissioned for couture collections, "Adorn" includes pieces made using the latest industrial technologies and processes, as well as more traditional methods and materials. Because most jewellers' work crosses themes, categories and styles, and is produced using a variety of techniques, the chapters are arranged by type of jewellery and each designer may feature in a number of chapters. In this way, from headpiece to toe ring, the book takes the reader on a visual journey around the body and provides a rich source of inspiration for anyone looking to design, commission or buy their own jewellery.
