Son projet le plus connu, la colonne d'hospitalité, Quand Jim monte à Paris, témoigne de son intérêt pour les nouvelles typologies et de son désir de créer des propositions ouvertes basées sur des notions simples telles que l'hospitalité, la générosité, l'empathie, la flexibilité. Mtali intervient dans des domaines aussi variés que le design industriel, le mobilier, le graphisme, la scénographie, l'architecture intérieure. En 2003 elle réalise un projet global, HI, un hôtel de ville à Nice, qui propose une expérience du contemporain et Le Pigeonnier Capsule, sa première micro-architecture. Le mu. dac de Lausanne a présenté à l'automne 2002, Un pas de côté 1991/2002, la première rétrospective sur son travail. Cette exposition a été ensuite présentée au Victoria & Albert museum de Londres en février 2003 puis au Grand-Hornu en Belgique à l'été 2003.

The increased mobility and global networking that pervade all aspects of our lives have had a considerable impact on the spaces in which we live, meet, and work. SpaceCraft presents projects that meet the changing spatial needs of our modern lifestyles and that are simultaneously expanding our current understanding of architecture. On the one hand, the book features flexible, fleeting structures that only exist for a limited time; these include pavilions, art projects or exhibition spaces. On the other hand, SpaceCraft focuses on spaces that are used temporarily such as studios, offices or vacation homes. These structures, which are often used as hideouts from our hectic lives, can either blend in harmoniously with their surroundings or seem as exotic as a spaceship that has just landed. The book documents original work by architects, artists and others that is distinguished by a playful, unconventional use of space. Many of the projects are experimental interventions within urban environments that are strongly influenced by a street art context. Yet since the Wright brothers made their first brief flight over 100 years ago, aircraft construction seems to have become strangely stuck in a rut. Today, rapid advances in the field of composites are opening up new possibilities for optimizing aircraft con-figurations and revising structural principles. Composites are combinations of two or more physically distinct materials that enhance each other's properties. The new modes of system integration and improved structural quality they offer may even manage to produce a 30 per cent more efficient 'blended wing' passenger plane. Flying wings, once just a footnote in the history of air transport, could well become the aircraft of the 21st century.
