Résumé:
What does the ideal capital look like? Photographer Nick Hannes traveled to six countries – Egypt, Korea, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Indonesia and Brazil – that have recently built a new capital or are in the process of doing so. Each and every one of them is a typical example of what Rem Koolhaas calls the Generic City: a planned city without historical layers, local identity, or its own character. As a visual sociologist with a sharp eye for detail, Hannes searches for the human dimension in a setting full of spectacular architecture and pompous prestige projects. "New Capital" is a critical reflection on unbridled neoliberal urban development and its social and ecological consequences, but is also peppered with subtle humor and surprising coincidences. Meandering between pride and sadness, "New Capital" shows how utopia and dystopia are sometimes surprisingly close.

"Verdigris / Ambergris" completes a twelve-year suite of works by Paul Graham focused on life’s transience and our mortality. This pair of sibling books is centered on people scanning the infinite horizon as they look out over land (Verdigris) and sea (Ambergris). Interleaved with these contemplative portraits in the first volume are images of cherry blossoms and in the second images of the setting sun. These photographs are made respectively in a park overlooking post-industrial New Jersey, in which Graham has worked for the past seven years, and along the northern coast of Long Island, where there is a long tradition of watching the setting sun.

Résumé:
With his first photobook ''Hong Kong'', The New York Times’ photo editor Mikko Takkunen captured one of the world’s greatest metropolises during a time of political uncertainty and the pandemic. As the city was still recovering from the aftermath of the anti-government protests of 2019, Takkunen began to concentrate on the purity of seeing and capturing the world anew. Inspired by the masters of the New York School, like Faurer, Stettner, and Leiter, the Finnish photographer sought to capture Hong Kong in a fresh and innovative way, revealing hidden perspectives and moods that many have yet to see. His photos are both documentary and subjective, creating a narrative of the city that‘s as captivating as it is beautiful. From the vibrant colors to the stunning tonalities, each photograph is carefully curated to take you on an offbeat journey through the magnificent city.

Résumé:
"Borderlands" is a documentary essay shot along the US side of the border with Mexico between 2017 and 2019, at the height of the Trump era. The series aims to develop a narration capable of going beyond the emergency perspective under which border-related issues are often presented and to transport the complexity of this 3,600 kilometers long strip of land. Crossed by migrants and travelers for decades but also inhabited by a very diverse range of souls, the borderlands seem to become a different place from the two countries they separate. Francesco Anselmi is an award winning documentary photographer living in Milan, Italy. His work focuses on border areas and the various consequences contemporary border policies are having on the people living in there. He is currently working on a long term project about border communities in the European Union. His images have been published and exhibited internationally.

Résumé:
It is a known fact that manmade climate change is especially prominent in alpine topography. The Austrian photographer Michael Goldgruber examines the marginal parts of glacier, snow, and rock zones with a critical eye. Goldgruber’s photographic works show sections of these landscapes that reflect a human dilemma – the longing for romantic landscape images on the one hand, and the reality of the countryside as altered by human activity on the other. Unlike classic landscape panoramas with their idealized images of nature, in Goldgruber’s works there is often no horizon, the proportions and scale remain unclear, the ice and rock formations fill the picture completely. The alpine world becomes an actor in its own right – it crumbles, melts, transforms.

"Color me softly" brings together photographs by Kathleen McIntyre, whose ingenious arrangement using a color scale is revealed when looking at the Japanese-bound, closed book from the side. An expanded version of a diptych, the juxtaposition of images creates a dialogue and space between the images that opens and allows for personal interpretation. "I wish with this book to give room for contemplation and imagination." Originally from California, Kathleen McIntyre moved to Norway at an early age. The cultural transition and need to adapt to a new language led her to develop a close relationship with her camera, becoming more of an observer than a talker. "For me, seeing is a deliberate choice searching for what is not obviously present. All layers come together in my viewfinder and what you see is what I saw."

Résumé:
The title "Le bateau ivre" (The Drunken Boat) refers to the poem of the same name by Arthur Rimbaud, in which he uses the image of a boat to represent a man’s journey through life. In a poetic photographic essay structured like a play in five acts, Martin Essl redraws the outline of a city in transformation and composes an abstract and contemporary map of Paris. »Le bateau ivre leads us on a Parisian tour that shows the eternal return of the same, like a curtain that opens and closes endlessly. As if diluted and transformed, under the influence of variations around cold colors, the Parisian space gradually becomes acqua alta, geographical, social, cultural, and temporal boundaries are dissolved.
