Résumé:
Photographer Stephen Shore’s extensive travels across the United States, document the banal scenes and objects he encounters along the way. This series was made on a single day in 2013, when Shore revisited a small Arizona town he had first seen in 1972. As part of Doug Aitken’s Station to Station project, in which invited artists, writers, performers and filmmakers rode a train from New York to California, stopping at various points to stage “happenings”, Shore decided to photograph Winslow and make a slideshow at the next stop; a visual improvisation. His portrait of the sun-baked town is bleak, with boarded-up buildings, abandoned objects and lifeless streets.

Résumé:
The work of Belgian artist and photographer Geert Goiris straddles a liminal position between landscape and still life. Haunting and dreamlike, the sometimes alien images denote a fundamental tension between man and nature often bordering on the sublime. From seemingly composed scenes of various objects or portraits to architectural and natural landscapes, the images impart a sense of uncanny timing or discerning observation, achieving both qualities of suspended time and unspoken narrative. Included is ‘Myths, Places and Protagonists’, a collection of short texts by Goiris offering personal insight into how a number of the images came to be created or inspired.

Résumé:
Eastman Kodak, the company which pioneered so much in photography from the 1880s through the 1960s, could have owned digital imaging; the very first electronic camera was born in one of Kodak's labs. Instead, they missed that boat, going into a tailspin that resulted in their eventual bankruptcy. Tied to that economic engine, the fortunes of Rochester, New York, the archetypal company town where Kodak had its headquarters, fell as "Big Yellow" collapsed. Catherine Leutenegger's attentive, deadpan studies of Rochester today explore the face of a city once central to photography but now irrelevant and adrift.

Résumé:
With a well-established international reputation, Japanese photographer Naruki Oshima’s latest work, Haptic Green, makes nature highly present. He applies a complex technical process to deconstruct an image into more than two hundred elements. The process is like a scan; with the camera fixed at a precise point, the artist methodically shoots a series of images starting from the bottom left corner of the frame, up to the top right-hand side, applying various focuses. After reassembling the shots and erasing its overlaps and distortions, the finalized image offers a view on nature which a human eye could never have. The artist describes the purpose of this series as to experience when you walk into dense green woods, and when your eyes reach out to scarcely recognize its object. Two different perspectives of distances exist here, one a close-up focus to see partial details of the tree, the other a distant focus to see the whole perspective of the tree.

Résumé:
In Peach, the young Swiss artist Susanne Hefti turns her acute and sensitive gaze on her changing surroundings. Through structure and composition, light and color, the photographer generates moments that spirit the viewer away to a world of her own and help us to see everyday things with new eyes. Hefti is interested in uncovering the ambivalence of images and their multilayered relations among one another as well as with their beholder. Even though we are aware of what we are seeing here on paper, these pictures are no longer part of reality but instead show us an artistic take on the world around us. They draw their substance from a confrontation with reality, provoking reflection on how we are to comprehend it.
