Résumé:
Robert Polidori (born 1951) has been making books at Steidl for over 18 years now, and for many of his visits he lodged in an apartment adjacent to the publishing house. To the left of this, at Düstere Straße 6, stands a small humble house, not only the oldest dwelling in Göttingen but, dating back to 1310, one of the oldest half-timbered houses in all of Germany. Miraculously never demolished over the centuries (just altered, repaired and patched up), it has now been restored by Gerhard Steidl and today houses the Günter Grass Archive, part of the University of Göttingen. ''Topographical Histories'' presents Polidori's 2016 photos of the interior walls of the building, whose glorious crumbling layers- 14th-century structures of wattle and daub, clay bricks and plaster, and remnants of paint and wallpaper from different centuries- bear witness to living history.

Résumé:
From early portraits of her five sisters, to photos taken above bookshelves and under beds, and later series on the New York City subway, Moyra Davey has spent four decades developing a practice that comprises photography, film and writing. This book surveys Davey's work, bringing together her photos and film stills, and her writings on photography, memory, art and historical figures, alongside a suite of new essays and interviews. These are some of the figures that haunt her imagery: Walter Benjamin, Mary Wollstonecraft, Jean Genet and Chantal Ackerman. As with her photographic accumulations of fragments, Davey approaches these touchstones indirectly, drawing from their letters, journals and less celebrated works to understand how they committed to living creative lives.

Résumé:
London-based photography duo Coppi Barbieri- established by Lucilla Barbieri and Fabrizio Coppi in 1991- have crafted meticulous still life photographs for such clients as Apple, Cartier, Chanel, Fendi, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, Van Cleef & Arpels. This book focuses on the duo’s early noncommercial work. Their first experiments involved images of flowers immersed in water, common household objects such as plastic bottles and glassware, and backlit dresses animated by fans. Their inspiration was the work of historical photographers such as André Kertész, Baron Adolph de Meyer and Josef Sudek, and the painter Giorgio Morandi- but they also injected the sensibility of fashion photographers working at that time, such as Paolo Roversi and Javier Vallhonrat. Their slow process involved using 5x7 film, which lends the pictures in this book a unique otherworldliness.

For years, Barcelona-based Angel Albarrán (born 1969) and Anna Cabrera (born 1969) have been the preferred printers for museums and world-renowned photographers such as Masao Yamamoto. Recently they have branched out as artists themselves, experimenting with new and traditional print techniques and exhibiting worldwide. In addition to mastering traditional techniques such as platinum prints and cyanotypes, they have developed a unique print technology: printing photographs with pigments on thin Japanese paper, which is then placed over gold leaf, imbuing the images with an otherworldly quality.

''Italian Views'' is a continuation of Gail Albert Halaban's series ''Out My Window'', featuring intimate domestic portraits against the cinematic backdrop of the city. In this new chapter, the artist shifts her focus from Paris to Italy- steadying her gaze through the windows of others in communities throughout Florence, Milan, Venice, Palermo, Naples, Lucca, and Rome. Albert Halaban works with local residents to stage and collaborate on each portrait, and through her lens, the viewer is welcomed into the private lives of ordinary Italian people. Her photographs explore the conventions and tensions of urban lifestyles, feelings of isolation in the city, and the intimacies of home and daily life.

Résumé:
This monograph on the work of Austrian architect Carl Pruscha (born 1936) is divided into the three geographical areas into which his life and legacy falls: the United States, Kathmandu and Vienna. Following his study of architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Pruscha spent the early 1960s at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, constantly in search of inspiration and visions. An invitation by the UN to go to Nepal in 1964 enabled him to establish himself there as a practicing architect, embarking on various construction projects and the Kathmandu Valley Development and Preservation Project. After returning to Vienna in 1978, he became the head of the Academy of Fine Arts. The three sections in this book are accompanied by photographic portfolios by Iwan Baan and Hertha Hurnaus, numerous project documentations and a detailed timeline.
