Résumé:
A leading representative of the Russian avant-garde, Alexander Rodchenko (1891- 1956) revolutionized the world of graphic art, design and photography. The over 250 illustrations featured in this volume allow the reader to grasp the full force of this innovator and to appreciate the charisma he exerted on fellow artists as much as on the men of letters, directors and intellectuals who shared his path. Whether it is the photomontages he created for Vladimir Mayakovsky's poem Pro Eto (About That), the covers designed for the magazine Novy LEF (New LEF) - a veritable point of reference for the revolutionary intelligentsia - or cinema posters and book illustrations, Rodchenko's works bear witness to his many collaborations and friendships, evoking not just the image of a brilliantly creative personality but a unique phase in twentieth-century history. The remarkable photographic portraits by the artist, his pictures of urban landscapes and architectures, as well as his photo-reportages in factories and building sites bring back both the faces and spirit of an age of great hopes and equally great contradictions. To this day, the style of Rodchenko the photographer, marked by unusual perspectives, sharp angles and diagonals, stands as the purest witness not just to the talent of an artist but to his eagerness to modernise art and the world at large. Complementing the volume are contributions by Olga Sviblova, the director of the House of Photography / Multimedia Art Museum of Moscow, by the grandson of the artist and leading scholar of his work Alexander Lavrentiev, in addition to writings and testimonies by Rodchenko himself and his daughter Varvara.

Résumé:
With over 150 photographs, this publication covers the main themes in the body of work of Gabriele Basilico (Milan, 1944–2013), in particular his relationship with cities and urban landscapes. Beginning with the Milano: Ritratti di fabbriche cycle from the late 1970s, this book follows the evolution of Basilico’s artistic language from his legendary pictures taken in France and in major ports across Europe in the 1980s to the 1991 series devoted to Beirut, which had just left behind its long civil war, up to his final work on the renewal of the Porta Nuova district in Milan. The main core of works in this publication consists of the fifty portraits of cities which the artist took over the course of his career: Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Moscow, San Francisco, Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro, and Shanghai intermingle and dialogue through Basilico’s impassioned and contemplative gaze. He was able to interpret the passage of time, transformations in architecture, and unexpected analogies in an endless journey across the bodies of cities.

Résumé:
A publication by the noted German photo-based artist Heidi Specker, ''Re-Prise'' captures her version of ''Ci-contre'', a photographic work by artist/flaneur Moi Wer, whose almost-forgotten work from 1930s Paris was published by photographic collectors Ann and Jurgen Wilde in 1972. Inspired by his open threedimensional layout system for photography, Specker adapted it for her 2015 installation at the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, exactly reproducing the artist's images' dimensions and placement to exhibit her own pictures, which share Wer's aesthetic of sensual subjective images from everyday life.

Résumé:
First published in 1998, The Plant Kingdoms of Charles Jones is an exquisite visual feast for anyone who draws delight from the riches of nature. The images have a wider significance in the history of photography and of the still-life genre in general, as explained in the book’s introduction by Robert Flynn Johnson. It presents more than 100 photographs of vegetables, fruits and flowers, all taken by the same photographer at around the turn of the 20th century, and all set against neutral, dark or light backgrounds in the style of formal studio ‘portraits’. For a contemporary audience, the photographs’ simple and unembellished beauty is the perfect antidote to appetites jaded by processed foods and 21st-century artifice. They communicate and inspire a loving respect for the beauty in nature.

Edward Burtynsky (b. 1955) is one of a generation of photographers who seek to portray the visible outcomes of a globalized economy and humankind’s impact on environments around the world. He has achieved global recognition with his large-scale photographs and project-based monographs, such as Quarries, Oil, and Water, all of which have resulted in popular touring exhibitions and, in the case of Water, a feature-length documentary film entitled Watermark. However, while Burtynsky’s global standing is without question, no comprehensive retrospective of his career to date exists.

Résumé:
New Year’s Eve, 1958, 10pm: Magnum photographer Burt Glinn is at a black-tie party in New York when he hears news that dictator Fulgencio Batista has fled Cuba. By 7 am the next morning, he is in Havana in a cab, telling the driver: "take me to the revolution." Such photojournalistic fervor allowed Glinn to be in the middle of the action to capture the Cuban Revolution as it unfolded on the ground. As Glinn said, “I could get up as close as I wanted.” His magnificent photographs convey the revolutionary idealism, mayhem and excitement of that moment in history. This volume includes some of Glinn’s most iconic Cuban photographs, as well as unseen shots, in both black and white and color, from gunshots being fired, confusion on the streets, the rounding up of the Batista Secret Police, spontaneous gatherings, embracing revolutionaries returning home to mothers, and, of course, Fidel Castro’s triumphant entrance into Havana.
