The photographs in this book were made by Jungjin Lee in the Everglades for the Norton Museum of Art’s exhibition “Imaging Eden”. Bringing her unique meditative approach to this subject, Lee captured a sense of stillness in the constantly moving landscape – one inhabited by endangered species like the manatee, the American crocodile, and the elusive Florida panther. Her photography is imbued with elemental vastness and wonder. Using a multilayered process that integrates elements of painting, Lee’s photographs exude a materiality not often found in photography. The Florida Everglades is one of the most extensive and complex wetlands on our planet. It has been declared an International Biosphere Reserve, a World Heritage Site, and a Wetland of International Importance. It is the third-largest national park in the lower 48 states

Résumé:
Since the early 1970s, when he began photographing on the streets of his native Los Angeles, Anthony Hernandez has consistently pushed his practice into uncharted territory, challenging himself by adopting new formats and subject matter. Moving from black and white to color, from 35mm to large-format cameras, and from the human figure to landscapes to abstracted detail, he has produced an unusually varied body of work united by its arresting beauty and subtle engagement with social issues. At first largely unaware of the formal traditions of the medium, Hernandez developed his own style of street photography, one uniquely attuned to the desolate allure and sprawling expanses of LA. Published to accompany the photographer’s first retrospective, Anthony Hernandez offers a comprehensive introduction to his career of more than 40 years, tracing his evolution as well as highlighting continuities across his practice. The catalogue represents the full range and breadth of Hernandez’s work, with an extensive plate section that includes many photographs that have never before been exhibited or published.

He realized how influential they are to his whole body of work, and an intense printing session followed in his beloved darkroom. Perfectly capturing the striking combinations of geometrical forms of the Jantar Mantar, Chaput presents mysterious and romantic locations where one could spend hours in visual exploration. Indeed, he spent hours waiting for the right light and angles, and for the many visitors to have left the famous Indian sites.

Résumé:
In April 2013, photographers Nico Krebs and Taiyo Onorato, who have been working together for a dozen years, loaded up their 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser in Switzerland and headed east. They'd already roughly traced their route by running a finger across the map of Eurasia to their ultimate destination, Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia. It felt like setting forth on an expedition to the mystical realms of the East: Eurasia, Central Asia, the foothills of the Himalayas, the forests of Siberia, the Stan Republics, the gigantic expanse of the former Soviet Union. A vast land mass, very few images of which are lodged in our minds, at least no clear and well-defined images, rather a haze of history and global politics. Nico Krebs and Taiyo Onorato went out in search of these images, to reproduce them, and to create them themselves. "Continental drift" is a travel log straddling the fine line between documentation and fiction about unknown lands, their possible past and conjectured future. It relates encounters with the utterly bizarre and inaccessibly alien, as well as with a remarkable openness and lavish hospitality they'd never known before, in striking contrast to their previous trip across the United States (The Great Unreal, now in its third edition at Edition Patrick Frey). Many of the countries and regions they traversed are in the throes of upheaval, caught between thousand-year-old traditions and post-Communist history and geopolitics, religious, territorial and ethnic turmoil, and the spreading desire to jump on the bandwagon of global turbocapitalism. The search for identity here is palpable—a search, along with the attendant confusion, graphically depicted in "Continental drift".

Résumé:
The work of Klaus Kinold, born 1939 in Essen, is part of a tradition of photography, and particularly of architectural photography. Architecture was one of the most important themes even of early photo-graphy not least because it stood still. Initially this was an important characteristic, since exposure times were long. Thus began the affinity of photography with the documentary. Reality and represen-tation were supposed to correspond. Quoting a statement by Roland Barthes, Kinold has referred to the still "mysterious bonus of confidence given to the documentary". At a time when digital photographic and processing techniques make all sorts of manipulation possible, the now rare quality of reliability is assigned to this attitude. It was self-evident for Kinold to explore the period whose very name included the term objectivity the New Objectivity (in German: Neue Sachlichkeit).

Résumé:
This comprehensive book accompanies the first retrospective exhibition of Lewis Baltz’s work following his passing in 2014. It explores the artist’s oeuvre as a complex whole of interrelated series, from his first Prototypes and the Tract Houses to Park City, San Quentin Point and Candlestick Point, through to New Sites of Technology and Venezia Marghera. The book simultaneously locates Baltz’s work in the context of photography and contemporary art since the 1970s, to fully examine his influence and legacy. Baltz is one of the most prominent representatives of the New Topographics movement, which was seminal to the development of conceptual photography. His photo series document the impact of industrial civilization on the landscape, focusing on places outside the bounds of canonical reception: urban wastelands, abandoned industrial sites, warehouses. Baltz’s strategies reflect a deep knowledge of the history of photography and present the photographer as a teacher of seeing.
