Résumé:
Raw, brazen and totally intense, Fucked Up + Photocopied is a collection of frenetic flyers produced for the American punk scene between 1977 and 1985. Many were created by the musicians themselves and demonstrate the emphasis within the punk scene on individuality and the manic urge of its members to create things new. Images were compiled out of whatever material could be found, often photocopied and, still warm, stapled to the nearest telephone pole to warn the world about next week's gig. One glance and you can sense the fury of live performances by bands such as Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys and The Minutemen, and, through the subtext the reader is exposed to the psyche of a generation of musicians stripped bare: The Germs, J.F.A, NOFX, The Circle Jerks, X, Devo, The Cramps, The Exploited, Screamers, The Avengers, The Dils and more. Fucked Up + Photocopied is the definitive reference book on the North American Punk scene and covers New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, MA, San Jose, CA, Washington, DC, Houston, TX, and Canada's Toronto and Vancouver.

Résumé:
Dirk Leyman became interested at a very young age in these peculiar accordion postcard albums, which every self-respecting tourist and souvenir hunter used to take home from their holiday. Dirk started to systematically collect them as time went by. The snapshots, which are folded in zig-zag fashion, are like relics of a long-gone era. Some are veritable typographical and photographic gems. Others are borderline kitsch, with their heavy-handed use of color. Europe Express spans the decades between the two World Wars to the early Eighties, with photos of San Marco in Venice and the elegant Grand Hotels and the utopian, upstanding world of the former Soviet Union.

Résumé:
A feminist silkscreen poster collective founded in London in 1974 by three former art students, the See Red Women’s Workshop grew out of a shared desire to combat sexist images of women and to create positive and challenging alternatives. Women from different backgrounds came together to make posters and calendars that tackled issues of sexuality, identity and oppression. With humor and bold, colorful graphics, See Red expressed the personal experiences of women as well as their role in wider struggles for change. Written by See Red members, detailing the group’s history up until the closure of the workshop in 1990, and with a foreword by celebrated feminist historian Sheila Rowbotham, See Red Women’s Workshop features all of the collective’s original screenprints and posters. Confronting negative stereotypes, questioning the role of women in society, and promoting women’s self-determination, the power and energy of these images reflect an important and dynamic era of women’s liberation—with continued relevance for today.

Résumé:
One of the common features of communist regimes is the use of art for revolutionary means. Posters in particular have served as beacons of propaganda – vehicles of coercion, instruction, censure and debate – in every communist nation. They have promoted the authority of state and revolution, but have also been used as an effective means of protest. By their nature posters are ephemeral, tied to time and place, but many have had far-reaching, long-lasting impact. They are imbued with both artistic integrity and personal conviction – Bolshevik posters, for example, are among the most vibrant, passionate graphics in art history. This is the first truly global survey of the history and variety of communist poster art. Each chapter is written by an expert in the field, and examines a different region of the world: Russia, China, Mongolia, Eastern Europe, North Korea, Vietnam and Cuba. This beautifully illustrated, comprehensive survey examines the broad range of political and visual cultures of communist posters, and will appeal to a wide audience interested in art, history and politics.
