Résumé:
Underpinning this edition of ''Raddar'' is a contemplation of design and the consequences of the will and power of creation. Design has long played with the notions or variations of fake – questions of falsification, touching on issues of manipulation and broader social concerns. All the articles are written by designers or researchers for whom the concept of fake had to be re-invoked. This is because the increasingly ambiguous link between our societies with deceptive techniques, reconstructions, post-truths, alternative facts, fact-checking, etc., necessarily repositions their practices in new relationships with the tools, projects, or observations of the realms where they act and operate.

Résumé:
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a re-examination of the architecture and design of our interiors from a wide range of perspectives. As containment measures were imposed, the private dwelling became central to the lives of many people worldwide; no longer a simple accumulation of furniture and objects, the interior is an intimate, socio-cultural construction anchored in a precise moment of space and time. A text by Swiss architect Philippe Rahm, who has long worked on climate phenomena and is now looking at its relationship with the pandemic, is among the ten articles by international contributors in this issue, guest edited by design historian Penny Sparke.

Résumé:
From universalism to colonial politics, from a close observation of co-approaches hoping to instigate change to the exotic and exploitative thoughts of designers themselves, the contents of this issue of ''Raddar'' share a critical stance in their examination from specific angles and subjects. Yet they also avoid taking a traditional approach, aiming to shed light on the underlying aspects. Encompassing historical Indochina, contemporary Lebanon, African and American odysseys, inclusive imaginary typographics, multinational practices, and more, its scope invites readers to explore other dimensions for critical study. Design politics seeks to move beyond the separation of design and politics, because all design activity is inherently also political activity.

Résumé:
Switzerland’s first dedicated research design journal, ‘Raddar’ aims to strike a balance between solid scholarly content and attractive graphic design. For its inaugural issue, it explores the theme “function” with a range of approaches in various analyses, case studies, and contributions from Roberto Casati, Anna-Maria Meister, and more. The journal’s cover is also a creative work in its own right, designed this time by Formafantasma, the Amsterdam-based studio headed by Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin. Carefully folded and perforated, it is divided into partitions that point to the possibility of cutting the paper into different segments and thereby providing a variety of possibilities.
