Résumé:
The distinctive visual language, bright colors, and unexpected materials of the '80s postmodernists are making a comeback. After decades of minimalism, midcentury modern, and Scandinavian design, a new wave of architects and designers are experimenting with shape, scale, and symbolic references to add expression and meaning to interior and furniture design. Playing with the themes of postmodernism, sometimes knowingly, sometimes incidentally, creatives are once again demonstrating that form doesn’t have to follow function, less is not more, and ornament is not a crime. These twenty-one houses from around the world transform the everyday with joyful colors and patterns, the juxtaposition of materials, and the celebration of surfaces. Daring and delightful with a healthy dose of wit and whimsy, Ornament Is Not a Crime is for anyone seeking bold inspiration for their home.

Résumé:
This comprehensively revised, illustrated edition discusses recent performance work and takes into consideration changes that have taken place since the book's original publication in 1996. Marvin Carlson guides the reader through the contested definition of performance as a theatrical activity and the myriad ways in which performance has been interpreted by ethnographers, anthropologists, linguists, and cultural theorists. Topics covered include: *the evolution of performance art since the 1960s *the relationship between performance, postmodernism, the politics of identity, and current cultural studies *the recent theoretical developments in the study of performance in the fields of anthropology, psychoanalysis, linguistics, and technology. With a fully updated bibliography and additional glossary of terms, students of performance studies, visual and performing arts or theatre history will welcome this new version of a classic text.

Avant Gardeners presents the fifty most exciting and innovative contemporary garden - and landscape-design practices from around the world, profiling the work of each designer through informative texts, photographs and plans. Topical essays explore the underlying principles of these highly individual approaches, and show how a new generation has rejected the naturalistic tradition of Western garden design, favoring instead the inluences of Modernism, Postmodernism, Pop Art and Land Art. Résumé:
Through three radical critiques of Modernist architecture, illustrated by the iconic--and very different--works of the Situationist International, Venturi Scott Brown and Archigram, Radical Games offers new perspectives on the architecture of the 1960s. It illuminates some of the pitfalls of contemporary architectural thought and questions a number of preconceptions that remain with us from the prevalent discourses of the 1960s. Perched on the cusp of Postmodernism and global capitalism, the critiques in this volume demonstrate a perceptive understanding of Modernism, as well as contemporary conditions, such as our increasingly image-saturated society. It is also clear, however, that these radical projects were so entwined with Modernism that the architectural conversation of the 1960s was driven to an impasse, which the contemporary debate has not yet been able to escape.
