Projet
AP206.S1.1985.PR10
Description:
This project series documents the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in India, likely around 1985-2000. The project was probably for the main campus, located in New Delhi. The project proposed a complete campus made up of round structures and roadways. The roads and buildings were proposed as one and the same, as both the roads and parking would make up the roofs of the buildings. This, it was said, would maximize the campus's space and separate cars from pedestrians. The project also proposed the design of energy efficient and sustainable infrastructure and processes for the campus. The drawings highlight the creation of waste management facilities, a biogas plant, sewage systems, an animal husbandry block, vegetable farming, efficient furniture and windmills mounted on the laboratories. The project is recorded through drawings, which are mostly reprographic copies, textual records and slides, likely dating from around 1985-2000. The drawings consist of a campus diagram, area survey plans, elevations, a section and details, while the textual records consist of a project proposal report. The slides show presentation plans and the project model.

Description:
Series 1, Software for collecting, formatting and storing data from the sensors, 2000-2008, is composed of four groups of files. Three of the four groups appear to represent different versions of a module that collects data from the sensors, writes the sensor data to XML format and transmits the data to a Web Server. The remaining group (ARCH275240) is composed of files whose purpose has not been identified. Files in this series were created between 2000 and 2008 but predominantly between 2006 and 2008. ARCH275099 is a group of files that were originally saved to a compact disc following the CCA exhibition. The data on the compact disc was organized and interpreted by the person or persons who compiled it. The original directories have descriptive names and the data is accompanied by instructions in a readme file. This is a selection of the files from the compact disc; other files from the disc can be found in Series 2. Groups ARCH275106 and ARCH275201 are composed of files that were selected from two of the hard drives that were returned to the CCA after the exhibition in Rovereto. The content of the hard drives included the selected files as well as system files and other data that was not retained in the archive. The two groups have some similarities in content and file structure and they both have some content that is similar to that of ARCH275099. Group ARCH275106 additionally includes ZiLOG development software and a "CCA Trident program" copyrighted by Scenethetic Inc. The modules in groups ARCH275099, ARCH275106 and ARCH275201 were developed in part by CCA information technology staff.

Steel House
AP144.S2.D60
Description:
File documents an unsuccessful competition entry, in collaboration with Miles Park, Douglas Smith and Frank Newby, for a mass-produced housing system using steel, for a competition sponsored by the European Coal and Steel Community. Requirements called for rapid assembly/disassembly, and flexible unit plans that could be altered by home owners and appeal to a wide range of owners and their preferences. Schematic sketches include exterior elevations, floor plans, preliminary details, and charts for building components. Conceptual sketches show alternate unit and floor plan arrangements, and include network analysis plans, site maximization plans based on transportability, family breakdown diagrams, alternate internal unit layout plans based on age and other factors, functional area plans indicating separation possibilities, and charts which cross-reference factors such as transportability, construction, and assembly requirements. Design development drawings show typical plans, site plans, sections, elevations, details, axonometric drawings of structure and cladding, internal units, and components. Some material in this file was published in Price, Cedric, "Steel Housing", 'Architectural Design', vol. 37, (May 1967) 244, and Price, Cedric, 'Cedric Price-Works II' (London: Architectural Press, 1984) 36, 49-50, 113. Material in this file was produced between 1965 and 1969. 'High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community' is the full name of the client as found in the textual records. The title of the competition is 'International Competition for the Design of Industrially Fabricated Dwellings'. File contains conceptual drawings, design development drawings, photographic material, presentation panels, textual records, and model.
