AP207.S3
Description:
The series documents Pettena’s activities as a writer and a critic of contemporary architecture from 1973 to the end of the 2010s. The series documents only a few of the many articles, essays, monographs, and book chapters written by Pettena. The series contains materials for two of Pettena’s writings about Ettore Sottsass and Ettore Sottsass Jr’s work written at the end of the 1990s and early 2000s, and a monograph on steel structure in contemporary architecture. This predominantly consists of research materials, draft texts, and documents related to the image selection process for three publications: “Il linguaggio dell'acciaio" (1992), “Sottsass Associati 1980-1999 frammenti” (1999), and "Sottsass e Sottsass" (2001). The series also contains scans of two earlier books by Pettena: “L’anarchitetto” (1973) and “La citta' invisibile. Architettura sperimentale 1965/75” (1983), and of a later one “Vienna e dintorni. Abraham, Hollein, Peintner, Pettena, Pichler, Sottsass" (2013). The series also documents publications and articles written on Pettena’s work. This material mainly consists of scans of articles and pages from publications, as well as some texts. Finally, the series contains material related to the development of Pettena’s professional website, such as texts and image selection.

Projet
Un dictionnaire
AP041.S1.1970.D2
Description:
UN DICTIONNAIRE consists of black and white photographs of wire-service newspaper articles selected by Charney for their depiction of “people and buildings caught in upheavals”. Charney described these images as “monuments which are created by events outside the confines of architectural institutions”, meaning that buildings and locations assume a “monumental connotation” when they become associated with a significant event. UN DICTIONNAIRE consists of 300 plates, each plate a photograph that “traces the contours of relations which affect our grasp of the significance of buildings”. UN DICTIONNAIRE was presented as an installation at Galerie Catherine & Stéphane de Beyrie in Paris in 1994 and at the Canadian Pavilion of the 7th International Architectural Exhibition in Venice in 2000 as well as at Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal in 2001-2002. The publication “Tracking images : Melvin Charney, un dictionnaire...” related to this project was also realized in collaboration the Canadian Centre for Architecture in 2000. This project series contains correspondence, notes, photographs, installations plans and exhibition space plans related for the aforementioned exhibitions in Paris, at the Venice Biennale and in Montréal. It also contains reprints of panels shown outside the Canadian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Source: Montréal : Musée d’art contemporain. (1979) Melvin Charney: Oeuvres 1970-1979. (p. 21-28)

MarkeTrac and OrderTrac
AP184.S2
Description:
Series 2, MarkeTrac and OrderTrac, 1998-2007, chiefly documents Asymptote’s work bringing 3DTF online through the development and implementation of two web applications. This series includes textual and born-digital components, and chiefly dates from 2000 to 2001. MarkeTrac represents the most significant expansion on 3DTF. Running as a subdomain of the NYSE website for much of the early 2000s, it allowed users to monitor data from a personal computer using the 3DTF interface. Though there were other efforts bringing real-time stock data online at this time, MarkeTrac is significant in that it was the first to include a major data visualization component. Later additions to this project include OrderTrac, a component of MarkeTrac allowing users to buy and sell stocks online. Other unrealized projects related to 3DTF and data visualization were conceptualized during this time. The digital files in this series are chiefly raster images and video of renderings, in addition to a body of handout materials for project presentations. There is also a small body of CAD material in Maya. The textual records are largely handouts for presentation meetings, overlapping significantly with the digital files. There is also a small body of chiefly textual material documenting the conceptualization of other data visualization products.

Projet
AP056.S1.1991.PR03
Description:
This project series documents planning for the Westnor Development Project, later called Wittington Place, in North York, Ontario from 1991-1997. The office identified the project number as 9106. This project consisted of a competition entry to develop the area above Highway 401 next to Yonge Street. The large plot of land would be a mix of residential, retail, hotel, office and outdoor spaces. The competition also called for the creation of a sports arena, Canada Coliseum, to be used for professional basketball and hockey. This entry was proposed by New York based firm Ehrenkrantz Eckstut and Whitelaw Architects, working with KPMB, among others.[1] The development was to be carried out in multiple phases, divided by city blocks. The drawings present different schemes for this development, most of which include a large park at its centre. This project was never built. The project is recorded through drawings and a site plan painting dating from 1991-1997. The large part of these drawings are originals and include sketches, model drawings, site plans and surveys, elevations, sections, perspectives and axonometric drawings. These drawings focus primarily on the development of the area as a whole and less on individual buildings.
