Description:
The project series documents "About Non-conscious Architecture", a series of photographs thought as a catalogue of natural geographical features, seen by Pettena as "architecture not made by architects" [1]. The catalogue was built during Pettena's travels in the United States, between 1972 and 1973, and includes landscapes of Utah and the Great Salt Lake area and Monument Valley in Arizona. The project was also presented in the form of a film at the 1973 Milan Triennale. The project series contains the photographs taken during research travels for the project selection, including behind the scene photographs, and final photographs series of "non-conscious" architecture. Description:
The project series documents the digitally created performance "Antologico… Enciclopedico" by Pettena in 2012. The project consists of a photograph of bookshelves which was digitally modified to include an image of Pettena to give the illusion that he is laying amongst the books. "An ironical statement made by the artist who, being more than seventy years old, has by now been the object of a long and progressive phenomenology of quotations and inspirations of critics, architects and contemporary artists. This is usually what happens with masters who, more or less, are no longer acting on the stage." [1] The project series contains two sketches and photographs of the performance. Description:
The project series documents the digitally created performance "Testacoda" by Pettena in 2013. The performance consists of a photograph of Pettena swimming to which he added the tail of a dolphin. This performance refers to "Il Mestiere Dell'Architetto" (2002) showing the difficulties and possible impasses of the work of the architect. "However, the ‘swimmer’ must still keep his head well up, as a symbol of rationality, and look with all his attention but, when he decides, he can give himself up to emotion through the wriggles of his tail." Description:
In addition to its regular municipal housing program, the city of Stuttgart initiated the Weissenhof estate project in 1925, which featured the design and construction of 40 homes as part of the international exhibition of modern construction. Originally intended as an affordable housing project, the plans were later tailored to meet the needs of educated middle class citizens. The exhibition featured the experimental designs of various architects, experimenting with home economics and new building types and materials. When it opened in 1927, the Weissenhof estate comprehended 21 projects of 63 dwellings with Oud contributing designs for five identical terraced homes that were built (Taverne et al. 2001, 291-297). Project series includes photographs of exterior and interior views of terraced housing as well as Oud's drawings for plans.
