Contemporary architects are breaking conventions and creating volumes inspired by organic forms, where curves and undulating lines transform buildings into spectacular landmarks that challenge our perception of architecture. The examples of curvaceous designs gathered in Curved demonstrate the visual expressiveness of ovoid, sinusoid, and wave-like shapes that harmonise with their surrounding landscapes. Résumé:
Through a collection of 13 chapters, Peggy Deamer examines the profession of architecture not as an abstraction, but as an assemblage of architectural workers. What forces prevent architects from empowering ourselves to be more relevant and better rewarded? How can these forces be set aside by new narratives, new organizations and new methods of production? How can we sit at the decision-making table to combat short-term real estate interests for longer-term social and ethical value? How can we pull architecture- its conceptualization, its pedagogy, and its enactment- into the 21st century without succumbing to its neoliberal paradigm? In addressing these controversial questions, ''Architecture and Labor'' brings contemporary discourses on creative labor to architecture, a discipline devoid of labor consciousness. This book addresses how, not just what, architects produce and focuses not on the past but on the present. It is sympathetic to the particularly intimate way that architects approach their design work while contextualizing that work historically, institutionally, economically, and ideologically. ''Architecture and Labor'' is sure to be a compelling read for pre-professional students, academics, and practitioners.

Résumé:
This first book on architecture by the founder of object-oriented ontology (OOO) deepens the exchange between architecture and philosophy, providing a new roadmap to OOO’s influence on the language and practice of contemporary architecture and offering new conceptions of the relationship between form and function. Thinking through object-oriented ontology—and the work of architects such as Rem Koolhaas and Zaha Hadid—enables the exploration of new concepts regarding the relationship between form and function.

Résumé:
This book explores the history of the survey and its multiple forms in order to understand how the methods of recording what already exists can also be used to imagine what might be. Lavishly illustrated, with works from the collection of Drawing Matter and beyond, it addresses the multiple forms of the survey through focused studies and an extensive section of plates with commentaries by contemporary architects. In doing so, it maintains that while all surveys begin with the site, the outcomes are as idiosyncratic as their authors – and their methods have much to offer as tools in design practice.

Résumé:
In Architecture of Thought, Andrzej Piotrowski maps and conceptually explores material practices of the past, showing how physical artifacts and visual environments manifest culturally rooted modes of thought and participate in the most nuanced processes of negotiations and ideological exchanges. Combining design thinking with academic methods of inquiry, Piotrowski traces ancient to modern architectural histories and—through critical readings of select buildings—examines the role of nonverbal exchanges in the development of an accumulated Western identity. Operating from the assertion that buildings are the most permanent record of unself-conscious beliefs and attitudes, it discusses Byzantium and the West after iconoclasm, the conquest and colonization of Mesoamerica, the Reformation and Counter-Reformation in Eastern Europe, the rise of the culture of consumerism in Victorian England, and High Modernism as its consequence.
