Collectively, the series acts as both a repository of emerging work, an opportunity for a young generation of architects to publish, and as a guide of sorts for the generation below them who are yet to complete their own first work. GFA2 is an architectural practice based in Santander, Spain, and Sydney, Australia. Co-founded by Gabriel and Guillermo Fernández-Abascal in 2018, the office approaches design from an intellectual and technical background, simultaneously. GFA2’s collaborative environment enables the delivery of a broad set of projects across various scales and locations.The projects are clear and direct, creating spatial frameworks where contemporary life unfolds in all their complexity.

Conceived by Herbert Bayer, Ludwig Grote, Hans Maria Wingler and Dieter Honisch, the then director of the Kunstverein, the show is still regarded as the most influential post-war exhibition on the Bauhaus. Fifty years after the opening of '50 Years Bauhaus'', the Württembergischer Kunstverein undertook a critical re-reading of the 1968 exhibition, with a particular focus on the ambiguous relationship that various prominent members of the Bauhaus had with National Socialism and the murky connections between the art avant-gardes and the military-industrial complex. While the 1968 exhibition historicized the reception of the Bauhaus, reducing it to West Germany and the US, the publication 50 Years After 50 Years of the Bauhaus reflects on the famous school in the context of artistic movements like the International Movement for an Imaginist Bauhaus and the Situationist International.

"How to build a river," through photographs and incisive, contextualizing essays, ventures behind the construction hoardings of the Port Lands Flood Protection project to reveal the transformation of hundreds of acres of polluted brownfields into a new public park, a new river and a site for future housing. Awarded to photographers Vid Ingelevics and Ryan Walker in 2019, the commission resulted in an illuminating series of photographs that explore key themes and historical contexts of this legacy-building endeavour. Central to this project was the construction of a new wider, naturalized mouth for the Don River as well as a new public park on this former brownfield site. Additionally, the photographs explore the necessary demolition of many existing industrial buildings, the involvement of First Nations, the excavation of the new river valley and the complex bio-engineering techniques involved, archeological discoveries during the excavation, the re-naturalization of the site and, most recently, the opening of a significant section of Biidaasige Park to the public in July 2025.

Photography is one of the principal filters through which we engage the world. The contributors to this volume focus on Walter Benjamin's concept of the optical unconscious to investigate how photography has shaped history, modernity, perception, lived experience, politics, race, and human agency. In essays that range from examinations of Benjamin's and Sigmund Freud's writings to the work of Kara Walker and Roland Barthes's famous Winter Garden photograph, the contributors explore what photography can teach us about the nature of the unconscious. They attend to side perceptions, develop latent images, discover things hidden in plain sight, focus on the disavowed, and perceive the slow. Of particular note are the ways race and colonialism have informed photography from its beginning. Beginning as a pictorial journey through myriad advertisements and the way they allow for many different entries into reality, Fang depicts parallels between the park’s actual construction and how it has been imagined, or how it has evolved out of history. For Garden of Mirrored Flowers is less the vision of one author (Fang) and more the result of reality writing itself through this author; that is, a script, or documentary, of life. “It’s a book,” Fang states, “written by a ghost writer. Me? Just a traveler floating within the wave of globalization.” Culminating with the park’s opening ceremony, Fang creates a space where history seems to have been completely consumed and absorbed by contemporary social movements. Guido Guidi's new book, "In Veneto," opens with a big eye framed in the blind of a shop window in Mestre, an eye which, by opening like a sort of warning, announces the origin of photography itself. This book contains a selection of hitherto unpublished photographs that Guidi took between 1984 and 1989, using a Deardorff 8X10. This was the first time he had used a large format camera for a whole project, which concentrated on an area in the central Veneto, an area known for having rapidly turned into a deeply uncertain, marginal landscape, one intimately hierarchy-free. The places he visited, in the provinces of Treviso, Vicenza, Padua and Venice, seem to be almost part of the same drawing, of the same place, bearing stark testimony to the process of change that has led to the transformation of a huge rural area, driving it into a form of fragmentation known as urban spread. The photographs in these much-loved places seem to re-evoke the three truths described by Robert Adams in "Beauty in Photography": geography, biography, and metaphor.

Jules-Bernard Luys and Émile David are represented by a photograph taken toward the end of the nineteenth century, of fluidic emission from the fingers of two hands; Richard Misrach captures a sandstorm in California in 1976; and Conner is represented by "Angel Light," one of the Angels series of dramatic, life-sized photograms he created in 1973-75, and which explore the disjunction between vision and phenomenological experience. Since opening in 1979, Fraenkel Gallery has presented close to 300 exhibitions exploring photography and its interrelations with the other arts, and The Unphotographable is one of its most ambitious projects to date. The catalogue is edited with an essay by Jeffrey Fraenkel, and includes 50 images in color.

The Unphotographable is published to coincide with an exhibition of the same name at Fraenkel Gallery in San Francisco, presenting photographs by anonymous amateurs alongside those of artists such as Diane Arbus, Bruce Conner, Liz Deschenes, Adam Fuss, Man Ray, Christian Marclay, Ralph Eugene Meatyard, Alfred Stieglitz and Hiroshi Sugimoto. And from hundreds of travel photographs, Kitty Scott constructs a panorama of Matta-Clark’s visual notes on the world around him—a foil to his artworks. In foregrounding seemingly incidental parts of the collection, these studies manifest an exploratory way of working with archives, by which selecting, presenting, and writing are processes of ongoing research.
