Résumé:
''Legible-Visible'' explores the relationship between print publications and audio-visual documents, two of the most important media in the social and cultural landscape of our time—and two forms that also define the evolution of contemporary art in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Mela Dávila and Maite Muñoz here show how the arrival of inexpensive home video technologies in the 1970s and then of digital media at the turn of the millennium sparked revolutions in the creation and diffusion of both video artworks and artists' publications. Dávila proposes a theoretical and historical framework for works long dismissed by the market because of their serial nature, while Muñoz shows how artists have taken advantage of the permeability between publications and audovisual elements.

Résumé:
Christian Marclay explores the fusion of fine art and audio cultures, transforming sounds and music into a visible, physical form through performance, collage, sculpture, installation, photography, and video. Published in a 3-volume magazine format, this exhibition catalogue aims to capture the spontaneity of his process-oriented practice. Although the structure of the magazines is intentionally loose, there are some themes that each issue addresses: the first issue, titled 'Prelude', historically contextualizes Marclay's work; the second, 'Interlude', addresses his early work and discusses the performances taking place at the Whitney; and the third, 'Reprise', looks at his later work and video scores. As a whole, "Christian Marclay: Festival" is a thoughtful and creatively packaged document that captures how this artist's compelling practice has evolved over time and continues to expand and develop.

Résumé:
Writing Aloud is an anthology focusing on the relationship of language to sound, writing to music, and brings together a highly diverse collection of essays, interviews, meditations, visual projects, text-sound scores and audio by some of the leading individuals in the field of cultural and performance studies, experimental music and contemporary art. Starting from the perspective that the sound of the voice is crucial to our perceptions and understandings of language, to the creative possibility of being without language, Writing Aloud examines the repercussions of such a perspective. Considering the sonics of words, it extends this examination of vocalization and articulation into how it contributes to and influences communication and notions of self-recognition. And further, how orality effects the act of writing itself, stages the tension between sense and non-sense, and provides space for self-reflection.

The second section, "Sound & Image," includes Hans Beller on film scoring; Diedrich Diederichsen on visual traditions in pop music; Katja Kwastek on music devices and art machines; Birgit Schneider on "Hearing Eyes and Seeing Ears"; and Chris Salter on the neuroscience and aesthetics of immersion, absorption and dissolution in audiovisual art. An epilogue by Michel Chion explores the cognitive conditions of audio experience

Résumé:
The Limestone Barrens Project is an international multidisciplinary investigation of the limestone cliffs and alvars in three areas: Ontario's Bruce Peninsula, Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula and the Burren in County Clare Ireland. Artists working in lens-based media (photography, video, video projection and video installation), writers, a composer and researchers walked and documented the sites so as to explore links between science, visual art, creative writing, sound and music. The project's publication is a stunning tribute to the fragile nature of these sites and their importance to our environment. Three essays, artist statements, poetry and sound recordings are accompanied by magnificent illustrations by some of the world's most distinguished landscape photographers, notably Marlene Creates, Har-Prakash Khalsa and Greg Staats. Accompanied by an audio CD. Produced in collaboration with Sir Wilfred Grenville College of Art Gallery, Newfoundland and Model Arts and Niland Gallery, Ireland.
