Résumé:
Japanese jazz bars and coffee shops are insular worlds where time ceases to exist, removed from the speed and chaos of the modern urban landscape. "Tokyo Jazz joints" is a visual chronicle of this unique culture that captures the transient beauty of these spaces. Established in 2015 to document Tokyo’s myriad jazu kissa, the project has gradually expanded to cover the whole of Japan. These dedicated jazz listening spaces are slowly vanishing in the face of changing trends, ageing customers and gentrification. This book preserves these living museums before they disappear forever. "Tokyo Jazz joints" is a documentary photography project by Northern Irish photographer Philip Arneill, in collaboration with American broadcaster James Catchpole, both long-term residents of Japan.

The walk from my apartment in Greenwich Village to my studio in Tribeca takes about twenty minutes, depending upon the route and whether I stop for a coffee and the Times. Invariably, though, it begins with a trip down the stairs. And so sets out architecture critic Michael Sorkin on his daily walk from his home in a Manhattan old-law-style tenement building. Sorkin has followed the same path for over fifteen years, a route that has allowed him to observe the startling transformations in New York during this period of great change. Twenty Minutes in Manhattan is his personal, anecdotal account of his casual encounters with the physical space and social dimensions of this unparalleled city.

Résumé:
The mushroom is an ordinary object whose encounters with humans are usually limited to a couple of species prepackaged at the grocery store. This book offers mushrooms as much more than a pasta ingredient or trendy coffee alternative. It presents these objects as the firmament for life as we know it, enablers of mystical traditions, menders of minds lost to depression. But it acknowledges, too, that this firmament only exists because of death and rot. Rummaging through philosophical, literary, medical , ecological , and anthropological texts only serves to confirm what the average forager already knows: that mushrooms are to be regarded with a reverence deserving of only the most powerful entities: those who create and destroy, and thrive on both.

Two walls and a roof as a shelter. A home warms the hearts of the ones that live in it and shelters when it rains; it’s the place where one happily returns and where one feels “at home”. Alessandro Sanna’s book re-creates the same atmosphere of warmth and serenity of being at home. Its shape, essential but immediate, appears in each page as starting point of a series of variations suggested by the image and imagination. The constant black image of home is “fulfilled” by the red illustrations, that create many possible illustrations: "home" turns into a "coffee-maker", or maybe some "trees" or eventually a "kite"...This book is a poem written and drawn right after the earthquake in Abruzzo

Résumé:
Roads that peter out in the middle of nowhere, buildings that no longer make sense, flotsam and jetsam that defy oblivion: Lukas Felzmann's scenery and objects quietly and unobtrusively open up their profound symbolism in the field of tension between desire and memory, hope and pain, dream and reality. Together they form a narrative that follows its own rules, subtly carrying the viewer along on a strange journey, where broad landscapes and deep horizons become expanses onto which visions of all kinds can be projected. Uncompromisingly printed in a small format deliberately set apart from the typical coffee-table picture book, "Landfall" is like a literary work, an existential analysis of the truths and illusions of our civilization, or a piece of poetry full of surprising encounters, whose ambivalence requires repeated reading.

Résumé:
For anyone who's ever wished to, but had trouble starting, keeping, or finishing a journal or sketchbook comes Wreck This Journal, an illustrated book that features a subversive collection of prompts, asking readers to muster up their best mistake - and mess-making abilities to fill the pages of the book (and destroy them). Through a series of creatively and quirkily illustrated prompts, artist Keri Smith encourages journalers to engage in "destructive" acts - poking holes through pages, adding photos and defacing them, painting with coffee, colouring outside the lines, and more - in order to experience the true creative process. With Keri Smith's unique sensibility, readers are introduced to a new way of art and journal making, discovering novel ways to escape the fear of the blank page and fully engage in the creative process.
