Projet
AP207.S1.1971.PR02
Description:
This project series documents five of the fifteen proposals submitted by Pettena for the Trigon competition in Graz, Austria, in 1971. The proposals documented in this project series are the following: Proposal n° 7 "Imprisonment" and "Architectural project #2 (Planes crossing)"; Proposal n° 11 "Instantaneous birth"; Proposal n° 12 "Conservazione"; Proposal n° 13 "Sedie e tavolo d’erba"; and Proposal n° 14 "Grass Architecture" I, II, and III. Pettena won the first prize for both his proposal "Imprisonment" and "Architectural Project #2" (Proposal n° 7) and for "Grass Architecture" I and II (Proposal n° 14). In these proposals, Pettena "questioned the temporal dimension of architecture as well as its relationship with nature." [1] The proposal "Grass Architecture" consists of shapes of grass rising from the ground, creating a perishable form of architecture coming from within and becoming part of the territory. The "Imprisonment" and "Architectural Project #2" proposals are a variation of Pettena's previous performance project "Cancellazione di uno stato" in 1970. These proposals consist of "trails of passing airplanes crisscrossing? the sky, creating the outlines of a grid of clouds. Here, the legacy of the grid in modern architecture is rendered formless, as if “naturalized” by the evaporation of the clouds, subject to chance and the freely drifting trails left by the airplanes." [2] The project series contains presentation drawings (five original drawings, seventeen reprographic copies, and four photographic reproductions), for Pettena's proposals "Imprisonment" and "Architectural project #2 (Planes crossing)", "Instantaneous birth", "Conservazione", "Sedie e tavolo d’erba", and "Grass Architecture" I, II, and III. The project series also includes photographs of models for the "Grass Architecture" proposal. AP206.S2
Description:
The Publications and writings series, 1947-2008, records the published and unpublished papers, books, articles, poems, diaries and notes of Aditya Prakash throughout his architectural education and career, up until his death in 2008. Many materials in this series are unpublished works, and concentrate on Chandigarh, urban planning, reflections on his past work and new ideas, architectural education, art and theatre. A number of these were prepared for talks and speeches Prakash gave as the Principal of the Chandigarh College of Architecture or for various clubs and committees. Published works in this series were typically published in newspapers, but some magazine and journal articles are included. This series also includes notebooks and diaries, the latter which give detailed daily accounts of Aditya Prakash’s life from 1947-1955. The writings in this series are a mix of typed and handwritten textual records, recorded primarily in English, but with some Hindi and Urdu works also included.

Laundry (1969)
AP207.S1.1969.PR02
Description:
This project series documents Pettena's installation "Laundry" realized in the context of the Campo Urbano, a series of artistic events staged during a day at the Piazza del Duomo, in the historic centre of Como, in Italy, on the 21st of September 1969. Pettena was one of the forty artists, musicians, architects and art critics invited to the event [2]. For his installation, "Pettena chose to hang out washing on clothes lines, with the aim of underlining the difference between the appearance of a city and the experience of living in it." [2]. The project series contains photographs of the installation at the Piazza del Duomo, in Como, sketches of the installation, and a project description in English and Italian. AP207.S1.1977.PR01
Description:
The project series documents the performance "Performance Fotofosforescente" carried out at the Palazzo Grassi, in Venice, for the International Festival "The Art of Performance" in 1977. The performance consisted of a phosphorescent figure descending the grand staircase of the main entrance to the courtyard of the Palazzo Grassi, crossing the atrium through the audience, and heading down the steps towards the Grand Canal to finally disappear into the water. The performer is holding in his hands a three-dimensional phosphorescent Escher cube, the only source of light while the courtyard is in almost total darkness. "The evocative setting, the music, the darkness and this moving light produced an effect of “working” of the space, somewhere between the real and the imaginary [...]." [1] The project series contains a draft and a more final storyboard of the performance, Pettena's handwritten notes, and photographs of the performance at the Palazzo Grassi.
