Résumé:
The 1960s and 1970s marked a period of exceptional change in Korea, propelled by rapid urbanization and modernization, and influenced by an authoritarian state at home and a globalizing world beyond. Young artists of the era were not immune to these unprecedented socioeconomic, political, and material conditions, responding with a groundbreaking and genre-defying body of avant-garde art known broadly as ''Experimental art'' (silheom misul). Both as individuals and in collectives, these artists broke definitively with their predecessors, redefining the boundaries of traditional painting and sculpture while embracing innovative and often provocative approaches to materials and process through performance, installation, photography, and video. ''Only the Young: Experimental Art in Korea, 1960s–1970s'' accompanies the first exhibition in North America to examine this influential but understudied period. Featuring incisive new scholarship and lavish photography of works drawn from public and private collections across the globe, the volume also brings together translations of articles, artist manifestos, and other primary sources that offer a firsthand perspective on the ideas and discourses then shaping Korean art. What emerges is the story of how this generation of young Korean artists harnessed the power of art to confront and reimagine an ever-shifting present.

Résumé:
When the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris asked Ari Marcopoulos to curate an exhibition around their acquisition ‘'Brown Bag'’, a short film on skateboarders in New York that he made in 1993, he was given access to the museum’s collection of over 15,000 works. He looked for themes related to the body, injuries, and architecture, along with what he perceived as challenging and puzzling works. Some of the artists were already familiar, while others were new to him. The process was not so different from his process as a filmmaker and photographer: so much of his work is about finding things. This book is a new look at photographs from around the time Marcopoulos shot ‘'Brown Bag'’.

Résumé:
Shaun O'Boyle has been photographing ruined landscapes and buildings in the Mid-Atlantic region, for more than twenty-five years. This collection of photographs represents some of his best work. Modern Ruins begins with an introduction by architectural essayist Geoff Manaugh, who offers insight into why people are so drawn to ruins and what they might mean to us in a larger psychological sense. Brief essays by noted historians Curt Miner, Kenneth Warren, Kenneth Wolensky, and Thomas Lewis offer social and historical contexts for the sites documented in the book. It concludes with an interview with the photographer that touches on his fascination with ruins and explores some of the processes and procedures he uses to document them.

Résumé:
This book accompanies the exhibition ‘Botanical Pleasure’ at the Zeeuws Museum in Middelburg. Both the book and exhibition highlight the work of the contemporary artist Frank Bruggeman and his fascination with plants. For this exhibition Bruggeman has made a selection from the largely ‘forgotten‘natural history collection of the Royal Zeeland Society of Arts and Sciences. In addition he made a film of the Hertogin Hedwigepolder in the easternmost corner of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. A third important component of the exhibition and book is a recently discovered herbarium from the end of the seventeenth century. There are remarkable similarities between the way in which dried plants are presented and the manner in which Bruggeman designs his flowerpieces, plantscapes and installations.

Résumé:
Metabolism Trip is a collection of photographs and short stories of Charlie Koolhaas’ journey along many of the remaining buildings of the Metabolist Movement. In the late 1950s a small group of young Japanese architects and designers joined forces under the title of "Metabolism". Their visions for cities of the future inhabited by a mass society were characterized by large scale structures. Charlie Koolhaas, a Dutch photographer and editor of UNIT magazine, traveled across Japan in 2009 to photograph how these architectural icons have survived and aged. What do their founding fathers and their inhabitants think of these buildings now? What Koolhaas found were triumphant and at times eerie constructions that had taken on a life of their own.
