Résumé:
Based on a controversial opinion piece originally published in the New York Times, Reclaiming Travel is a provocative meditation on the meaning of travel from ancient times to the twenty-first century. Ilan Stavans and Joshua Ellison seek to understand why we travel and what has come to be missing from our contemporary understanding of travel. Engaging with canonical and contemporary texts, they explore the differences between travel and tourism, the relationship between travel and memory, the genre of travel writing, and the power of mapmaking, Stavans and Ellison call for a rethinking of the art of travel, which they define as a transformative quest that gives us deeper access to ourselves.

Résumé:
"The (un)common place" is the result of the research project "Trans : it. moving culture through Europe", a journey through creative practices between art, architecture and urban research that are redefining the concept of public space in Europe. A "common place", a shared vision, from Norway to Turkey, from Spain to Bulgaria, from Cyprus to Romania, emerged from the more than fifty artists and projects documented in this book. Artists, institutions and society are searching for new relations to experiment unforeseen forms of cohabitation, mutual understanding and visions of the urban landscape. The book, organised in five thematic chapters, presents a European interpretation of public space resulting from complexity and difference, translation and memory.

Résumé:
"The Italian Interiors of Elsa Peretti" charts a voyage through two sumptuous homes of the late artist whose designs completely reshaped jewellery in the 20th century and are still worn by the world’s biggest stars today. Capturing the terracotta glow of these spaces, Estelle Hanania’s ethereal photography introduces us to the wilds of Torre Avoltore, a towering residence in Porto Ercole, and invites us to retire to stately Rome, where Elsa grew up. An introductory essay by longtime collaborator Stefano Palumbo centres Elsa’s creative relationship with architect and designer Lorenzo Mongiardino, and a brief dispatch from photographer Dominique Nabokov closes the book with a memory of her 2001 visit to the tower.

Résumé:
In a garden sit the aged Kublai Khan and the young Marco Polo—Mongol emperor and Venetian traveler. Kublai Khan has sensed the end of his empire coming. Marco Polo diverts his host with stories of the cities he has seen in his travels around the empire: stories about memory and desire, art and creation, life and death. As Marco Polo unspools his tales, the emperor realizes these fantastic places are more familiar than they appear. With a new introduction from Pulitzer Prize winner Anthony Doerr, and dreamlike illustrations of the cities interspersed throughout, this edition breathes new life into Calvino’s classic, a celebration of the story’s profound invention and enduring insight.

Résumé:
"Conscious community" focuses on three Louis I. Kahn Visiting Assistant Professors’ architecture studios at Yale including that of Chirs Cornelius of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin in "De-Colonizing Indigenous Housing," New York-based architect Rodney Leon in "National Slavery Memorial" and Jordanian-Palestinian architect and designer Abeer Seikaly in "Conscious skins." The student projects exemplify a commitment to redefining the role of architecture in addressing societal and cultural complexities while redefining the architectural subject. These projects go beyond their proposed physical constructs; they are manifestations of a conversation about space, identity, and memory. This conversation challenges architectural norms, advocating for designs that view environmental, historical, and social aspects as interwoven elements of the architectural brief.

Résumé:
"Archiving machines" advances our understanding of memory, information, and data by charting the struggle between the computing technologies that archive data and the cultures of information that have led to platforms that assert control over its use. Amelia Acker examines the origins of data archives and the computing processes of storage, exchange, and transmission. Each chapter introduces data archiving processes that relate to the evolution of data sovereignty we experience today: from magnetic tape and timesharing computer models from the 1950s, to the establishment of data banks and the rise of database processing and managed data silos in the 1970s, to file structures and virtual containers in cloud-based information services over the past 40 years.

Résumé:
"Altre Tempeste" is a visual journey through the contemporary landscapes of the Veneto, seen through the lens of Olivo Barbieri. Drawing inspiration from Giorgione’s "The Tempest," the artist brings Renaissance memory into dialogue with the transformations of Italy’s Northeast, where historical architecture, industrial warehouses, and shifting natural environments coexist. From Carlo Scarpa’s Brion Tomb to Canova’s Gypsotheca, Barbieri moves between sweeping views and intimate details, using color and light as critical tools of inquiry. Photography becomes a laboratory where art, architecture, and science converge, revealing new ways of seeing and understanding place. Featuring thirty-two previously unpublished works and insightful critical texts, the volume presents a landscape suspended between history, industry, and imagination.
