Résumé:
Published in memory of the Great East Japan Earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster, ‘'Picturing the Invisible'’ explores the realities of life in the wake of this seismic event, which shook Japan to its core. Even today, vast swathes of land remain uninhabitable. More than 35,000 people are unable to return to their homes, and many more choose not to, concerned that life in Fukushima may not be as safe as the government claims. Edited by Makoto Takahashi, the book brings together seven photographers working in the affected territories: Takashi Arai, Rebecca Bathory, Thom Davies, Masamichi Kagaya and Satoshi Mori, Yoi Kawakubo, Giles Price, and Lieko Shiga.

Résumé:
In Paris, capital of modernity, Harvey presents an account of the city in a remarkably turbulent era, framed by two failed revolutions. His key concern is how a new form of finance capitalism combined with a new type of planning vision to produce the prototypical modern city. Also, there are insights throughout about subjects such as the birth of the consumerist spectacle on the Parisian boulevards; the creative visions of Balzac, Baudelaire, and Zola; and the reactionary cultural politics of the bombastic Sacré Coeur, the Catholic monument erected to efface all memory of the revolutionary Paris Commune that arose briefly when the empire collapsed.

Résumé:
Published to accompany the 2008 Deutsche Guggenheim survey curated by American artist Collier Schorr, Freeway Balconies unfolds more as an artist's book than a straightforward exhibition catalogue. Borrowing from Allen Ginsberg, the title refers to the meeting place of spectacle and voyeurism in American culture--expressed here through Schorr's idiosyncratic mix of 19 emerging and established artists, including Sharon Hayes, Bruce Nauman, Francesca Woodman, Rashawn Griffin and Richard Prince, among others. Her choices, arranged around selections of her own work, reveal her probing interest in slippages of identity and identification, cultural memory and forgetting and the ways in which artistic action and production engage these issues.

Résumé:
As a whole, the works compiled in this volume constitute an unconscious autobiography of Colombia’s current aspirations and fears. They reveal that the nation is at a crossroads in terms of its cultural identity, caught between socio-political commitment and poetic escape, and offer tools to engender both economic and cultural ideas and prejudices. Over 60 artists and designers form a map that traces, challenges, and vindicates what it means to live in Colombia, embodying its contemporary historical memory. The initiative was conceived by Hugo Herrera Tobón, Moniek Dreisse, and Annelys de Vet to further encourage a discussion of the nation’s complex cultural identity.

Résumé:
'Track Changes' balances the stories of individual writers with a consideration of how the seemingly ineffable act of writing is always grounded in particular instruments and media, from quills to keyboards. Along the way, we discover the candidates for the first novel written on a word processor, explore the surprisingly varied reasons why writers of both popular and serious literature adopted the technology, trace the spread of new metaphors and ideas from word processing in fiction and poetry, and consider the fate of literary scholarship and memory in an era when the final remnants of authorship may consist of folders on a hard drive or documents in the cloud.

Résumé:
Driven by the central question "What are we learning from artists today?" the second volume of ''A series of open questions'' is informed by themes found in the work of Trinh T. Minh-ha, such as cultural hybridization and fluidity of identity, digital and migratory aesthetics, memory and landscape, decentered realities, feminist approaches to storytelling, meditations on death and myth, post-coloniality and decolonization, and women's work as related to cultural politics. The contributions to ''Why are they so afraid of the lotus?'' embody Trinh's own weariness around categorization and investigate the ways production can come from and be based in positions of unknowing.

Résumé:
With this publication, visual artist Michiel Kluiters investigates how space (or spatiality) works in photography and how it can become an instrument for narration. A series of photographed spaces open up a dialogue and hint at intimate stories. Walls appear roughly textured, seeming to address the tactile rather than visual sense. The pictured spaces look like unfinished buildings or abandoned ruins, either still under construction or already in decline. Kluiters instils these images with a temporal sense, leaving an unanswered promise of eventual fulfilment or a lingering memory of an irrevocable epoch. We must wonder, is this a possible dystopian future or the remnants of a utopian past?

“My art is not my work; you are the creator of your image in your head. I do not exist at all.” Those are the words of Michael Schirner, Germany’s “pope of advertising.” In his oeuvre, Schirner treats the visual worlds of mass culture and high culture as well as the perception of images communicated via media. He does not create new images. His images are images about images. Magazines, newspapers, films, television, the internet, advertising, and art are his image archives. Schirner works and reworks that which is stored in our collective memory. The goal of his work is to make the invisible visible.
