Résumé:
This monograph documents the holistic nature of the design philosophy established by Tel Aviv-based architects Irene Kronenberg and Alon Baranowitz, where space, form and materials are expressly employed to enhance human experience and social interaction. Incorporating culture, time and place in the design process is fundamental to their approach. In this book, the architects offer a personal analysis of the thinking behind seven of their projects, illustrated by extensive plans, models and photos. Included are the Tel Aviv restaurants Jaffa Tel Aviv and Deca, the Israel Museum shop, Amsterdam’s Palace Hotel and Sir Albert Hotel and Izakaya, and Villa Pi.

Résumé:
From the Pantheon in Rome to the Zollverein in Essen, “vital architecture” describes buildings with a future value, buildings whose architecture determines and guarantees their lifespan. The spatial quality of such buildings is the core of their value and sustainability, even--or especially--when their use changes. Vital Architecture focuses on the clients, users, architects and designers of such buildings. Written by Ruurd Roorda and Bas Kegge, the book documents and interprets 20 of these vital buildings with plans, sections, diagrams and photographs by Roel Backaert. Offering a spatial analysis of both instantly recognizable architectural icons and common, everyday existing buildings drawn from a period ranging from the beginning of the Christian era to the present, Vital Architecture develops a methodology to account for the lifespan of buildings, and offers inspiration for creating something for the future.

Résumé:
What is the nature of the interaction between architecture and machines as key objects in human design, and how does this interplay work? The contributors to this book explore this multifaceted interchange in its broad thematic manifestations and historical depth, focusing above all on three aspects: machines that assist in the design and construction of buildings, those that perform their tasks inside the walls and structures of buildings, and—in particular—machines that act as models and images of architectural thought. What emerges is that the subject of machines within the architectural framework has been rooted not simply in concrete technical questions, but rather to a far greater extent in general programs, processes, and performances, and thus in fundamental categories of built space.

Résumé:
Founded in 2009, Paris-based PARC Architectes has risen to prominence, winning awards and accolades in its native France and beyond. Just as important as its design work is PARC Architectes’s research on contemporary architecture and urbanism, laid out in the essay « Le Parc Planetaire » ("The Planetary Park"), published in the firm’s own journal, PRAGMA, and on its blog, CRAPZINE. This first book to focus on PARC Architectes, " Architecture as environment" features fifteen foundational designs by the firm, chosen to reflect the firm’s credo that the environment has to become a matter of architecture. At the interface of art and science, PARC Architectes’s designs are installations rather than mere structures, enabling adequate responses to contextual and conceptual issues in the construction of contemporary human environments. In addition to brief essays, the book also includes one hundred illustrations, including many in full colour.
