Résumé:
Queer people have always found ways to exist and be together, and there will always be a need for queer spaces. In this illustrated volume, Adam Nathaniel Furman and Joshua Mardell have gathered together a community of contributors to share stories of spaces that range from the educational to the institutional to the re-appropriated, and many more besides. With historic, contemporary and speculative examples from around the world, this book recognises LGBTQIA+ life past and present as strong, vibrant, vigorous, and worthy of its own place in history. Looking forward, it suggests visions of what form these spaces may take in the future to continue uplifting queer lives.

Résumé:
Spanish architects Jose Selgas and Lucia Cano are perhaps best recognised for the tunnel-like glass office they work from in the woods outside Madrid, but this special instalment casts its net more widely to cover the duo’s practice during the last decade. Besides an interview with the architects by Enrique Walker and essays by Ryue Nishizawa and the architects themselves, the pages feature more than 20 notable projects. From 55 dwellings in Amsterdam, Casa La Canaria and an eyewear shop in Cartagena, to their contribution at the 13th Venice Biennale and the renovation of Texas Square in Oranjestad, the projects are colourful, varied and, above all, imaginative.

For Toyo Ito, architecture is not so much a work of art but a mirror reflecting the times. From modest beginnings with a small atelier in 1971, he has grown to become one of the foremost practitioners of conceptual architecture, and was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 2013. Covering topics like architecture for a consumption-oriented society, the pursuit of abstract beauty, public buildings and Ito’s “white period”, this monograph of collected works allows an unparalleled view into his development and work through the years. Besides an extensive and insightful conversation with Terunobu Fujimori, the book contains five interviews with Ito focusing on specific projects and periods.

Résumé:
In 2002, ‘Wallpaper’ magazine listed Australian architect Sean Godsell as someone destined to change the way we live. His ‘Future Shack’ (1999), constructed from shipping containers, drew international attention, and he has since garnered numerous awards. This monographic edition of ‘El Croquis’ explores Godsell’s work, which is primarily rooted in his belief in the power of architecture to help the less fortunate. A craftsman at heart, the fact that he is demanding and exacting in both the logic and execution of his designs is clear. Besides an in-depth focus on ten significant projects, the issue includes an interview with Leon van Schaik and a critical text by Juhani Pallasmaa.

Résumé:
Atelier Bow-Wow is known for their small housing designs within the dense urban areas of Tokyo. But besides these, they have been also working on urban and public spaces. It first started as an urban research project, which resulted in the publication Made in Tokyo, the exploration of the hybrid urban environment, and Pet Architecture Guidebook, a typological study of extremely tiny buildings, which illustrate the spatial practice in the course of rapid urban transformation. Public Space by Atelier Bow-Wow, presents the works and thoughts of Atelier Bow-Wow on public space, focusing on the following projects: Miyashita Park, Kitamoto KAO and BMW Guggenheim Lab.
