Résumé:
"A House for My Mother" features 25 houses designed over the last 50 years by various architects for their mothers, fathers, in-laws, and extended families. Included are the well-known works of recognized designers as well as early works from promising young architects. Extensive interviews with the architects and their families reveal the various joys and difficulties of these very personal commissions. The houses offer innovative and affordable designs, in a variety of styles and building materials, for homes ranging from city dwellings to beach houses and mountain retreats. As the architects were generally given broad control over the design, these homes showcase the ideas that characterize their work. The architects in this collection include Natalye Appel, Peter Bohlin, Walter Chatham, Charles Gwathmey, Steven Izenour, Donna Kacmar, Robert Kahn, Mark and Jean Larson, Joanna Lombard and Denis Hector, Robert Luchetti, Suzanne Martinson, Richard Meier, Charles Menefee, Mark Simon, Laurinda Spear and Bernardo Fort-Brescia, Robert Venturi, and Paul Westlake.

Résumé:
Breuer was extremely prolific and produced a wide-ranging output that extends from large-scale projects to furniture. A major part of his oeuvre consists of single-family dwellings, many of which are found in the United States. This issue of "2G" brings together a selection of his more important houses: from the first examples at the end of the 1930s, in which the influence of the Bauhaus is still very strong, to those of the 1960s in which Breuer has encountered his own highly original language. Works and projects include: Hagerty House, Cohasset; Breuer I House, Lincoln; Robinson House, Williamstown; Breuer II House, New Canaan; Breuer Cottage, Wellfleet; Kepes Cottage, Wellfleet; Stillman Beach Cottage, Wellfleet; Wise Cottage, Wellfleet; Exhibition House in the MOMA Garden; Pocantico, Tarrytown; Clark House, Orange; Pack House, Scarsdale; Grieco House, Andover; Hooper House, Baltimore; Starkey House, Duluth; Stillman II House, Lichfield. The nexus section comprises texts by Peter Smithson, Marcel, Breuer, Mathias Klotz, and Amy Lelyveld.

Résumé:
Since starting their practice in 1986, Iranian-born, American-educated sisters Gisue and Mojgan Hariri have earned widespread praise for their ambitious body of work. Their up-to-the-minute recasting of classical modernist principles has made them a source of continuing inspiration to design students and professionals alike. Over the course of recent years, the Hariris' portfolio has expanded from small-scale commissions to widely celebrated projects, including the much lauded "Digital House" and the first house to be completed at The Houses at Sagaponac, the ambitious Hamptons development. Among the projects featured in Hariri & Hariri: Houses—illustrated in plans, drawings, and splendid full-color photography—are a new house for the AQUA development in Miami Beach; spectacular urban renovations in New York City; and magnificent new houses across the country, as well as international projects, all of which demonstrate the ability of the Hariris to combine modernist rigor with what New Yorker architecture critic Paul Goldberger identified as an "understanding of the patterns of everyday life."
