Résumé:
South Korean artist Haegue Yang (born 1971) uses a wide array of mediums—ranging from paper collage, video essays and performative sculptures to large-scale installations—to create images and experiences in which people, places and things are evocatively linked. Often using ordinary objects in elaborate abstract compositions, Yang's work stages chance encounters between viewers and materials that can generate unexpected forms, emotions and narratives. This publication is a rich, fully illustrated anthology of the most significant writing on Yang's work from 2006 to 2018. Featuring essays and interviews by Lars Bang Larsen, Nicolas Bourriaud, Binna Choi, Doryun Chong, T.J. Demos, Yilmaz Dziewior, Patricia Falguières, Eungie Joo, Tom McDonough, Ute Meta Bauer, Bart van der Heide and Anne M. Wagner, the selection of texts in this volume thoroughly engage the complexity of the artist's work.

Résumé:
An exhibition catalogue from the Migros Museum featuring 21 artists and architects including Anish Kapoor, Jane and Louise Wilson, James Casebere, and Daniel Libeskind among others. The exhibition takes as its point of departure three contexts in which space occupies a central position: Sigmund Freud’s notion of “das Unheimliche” and psychoanalytical elaboration of space and its emotion; Michel Foucault’s other spaces – heterotopias and their counter-site qualities of socio-political implications; and Walter Benjamin’s outmoded and repressed space with all its auratic traces (fake or authentic) of philosophical and historic charge. “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” aims to exploit the psychological associations of space with its multiplicity of emotional overtones, mapping its extremes and its psychic environment. Focusing on spatial pathologies (agoraphobia, vertigo, claustrophobia...), the exhibition identifies space as a cause of mental disorder, fear or estrangement, ultimate trauma. Hysteria, panic and neurosis overlap with other spatial stories of psychic unrest and unease: distortions and perversions (warped space); anxiety and enigmas (haunted space); spatial inconvenience and discomfort, perfectly domestic and yet alienating; space half-spoken, half-pronounced: a promise, a puzzle, a magic spell, temptation.

Résumé:
Using CGI, Canadian artist Benjamin Freedman presents a captivating image sequence which meticulously reconstructs his childhood memories of a family road trip to Maine in 1999. Blurring the line between reality and simulation, these surreal images toy with the ephemerality of memory and its inseparability from fantasy. Freedman’s recreated scenes of roadside diners, pools, and picnics create a visceral and sensory dreamscape, evoking the sounds and smells attached to his childhood recollections. These digitally constructed images explore how technology permits us to revisit and reimagine the past in ways that feel both familiar and uncanny. Distinctions between personal recollection and collective nostalgia are compromised, creating an idiosyncratic visual realm saturated with shared emotions and histories. Freedman’s use of digital tools to recapture nostalgic scenes underscores the fluidity of memory while also challenging traditional conventions of the photographic medium.

A little island inhabited by fishermen, the sun, the waves. The little boats quietly fish the high seas, but one day a big boat comes to steal all the fishes to the fishermen. The poor fishermen are desperate, till a frightening storm will abandon a big, big fish on the beach: onec more the nature has won... Aoi Huber-Kono writes and draws a tender and fascinating story, where the soft and winding stroke and non-conventional use of colours create a mysterious and bewitching atmosphere. The creative make-up by Max Huber, inspired by calligrammes, follows the waves’ rythm, the spaces and moves suggested by drawings, and generates emotions in the reader. “Il grande pesce”, published for the first time in 1968, it’s a book that continues to talk and touch contemporary children and adults.

Résumé:
Originally released as a feature film in 1993, the year before the acclaimed artist and filmmaker Derek Jarman’s death due to an AIDS-related illness, Blue is a daring and powerful work of art. The film and its script, as reproduced in this volume, serve as an impassioned response to the lack of political engagement with the AIDS crisis. Jarman’s Blue moves through myriad scenes, some banal, others fantastical. Stories of quotidian life––getting coffee, reading the newspaper, and walking down the sidewalk––escalate to visions of Marco Polo, the Taj Mahal, or blue fighting yellow. Facing death and a cascade of pills, Jarman presents his illness in delirium and metaphors. He contemplates the physicality of emotions in lyrical prose as he grounds this story in the constant return to Blue—a color, a feeling, a funk. Michael Charlesworth’s compelling introduction brings Blue into conversation with Jarman’s visual paintings.

Résumé:
Regardless of his sitter whether family member or influential celebrity the portraiture of London-based photographer Nadav Kander (born 1961) shows what makes that particular individual human. His aim is to move beyond capturing an accurate likeness?to access the emotions within, the uncertainty, the shadow as much as the light, the complex sense of self that otherwise lays hidden. “Revealed and concealed, beauty and destruction, ease and disease, shame and shameless,” explains Kander, “These paradoxes are essential to all my work and represent what is common to all my varied subject matter.” This collection, the first book dedicated to his portraiture, shows the range and nuance of Kander’s work. His enigmatic depictions of actors, artists, musicians, authors, sports icons and political leaders?from Barack Obama, John le Carré and Alexander McQueen to Tracey Emin, Robert Plant and Prince Charles are layered and penetrating, revealing unexpected moments of reverie and vulnerability.
