Résumé:
Extending the figure-ground visual paradox to a fundamental architectonic problem – that of the reciprocity between a wall and a window – this book by Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen reflects on the intersection between painting and architecture. If a window is inherently a subtraction of a wall’s surface but also an infill with a "view" beyond it, a painting is as much a flat, opaque surface as the illusion of space beyond. Containing over 1,000 works, including paintings, sketches, and line drawings, this alphabetical catalogue presents a broad examination of the Chilean duo’s practice to date. The book also includes an essay by the authors and an index of the artworks.

Founded in 2002 by Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen, the studio’s work is characterised by its focus on a combination of residential and small-scale architecture and artistic endeavours. Presented here is selection of more than 20 works spread across multiple continents, including several cultural centres and pavilions in the Americas and Europe, a visitor centre in Canberra, an innovation centre in their home base of Concepción, and a diverse array of houses. An added highlight is the contribution of two essays by Pezo and Von Ellrichshausen themselves.

Résumé:
Mauricio Pezo and Sofía von Ellrichshausen steer their practice with rigid frames out of which a profoundly lyrical architecture comes forth: works where pure geometries and matrix order help them make a link between artistic image and spatial experience. ''Arquitectura Viva'' now presents a selection of them – from a large public facility and two houses to a group of pavilions – that shows how life can spontaneously arise also from fixations. In this issue’s dossier, four European buildings present new constructional uses of wood, the retrospective that Herzog & de Meuron have organised at the Royal Academy of Arts, and three exhibitions in Europe on Yayoi Kusama.

Résumé:
Between art and architecture, the work of Mauricio Pezo and Sofía von Ellrichshausen is a consistent mix of geometric, spatial, and structural experimentation, where each piece is conceived as a variation within a series. The introductory text by Fernando Pérez Oyarzun unveils the key aspects of the work of the Chilean architects and their particular way of understanding architecture, and is followed by a chronological journey through 32 works and projects developed since 2002, when they set up their studio in Concepción, 500 kilometers south of Santiago. This itinerary includes the bold prisms of their first houses which brought them world renown as well as their latest projects.

Résumé:
"Form of knowledge" is a collection of ten essays written by Pezo von Ellrichshausen over the past decade. According to the authors, they can be read as «ten problems derived from the practice of architecture, from the practice of thinking about possible buildings for the future and from the practice of inhabiting buildings and imagining their possible causes or explanations to exist as they are, or as we think they are». Translated into Italian for the first time, the unpublished title refers to the capacity of architecture to be self-referential or a problem in itself, in other words; a meaningful artifact derived from human understanding for the ultimate purpose of human understanding.
