Published for his first solo show as an artist at Lafayette Anticipations in Paris, this book presents, for the first time, more than 40 artworks by Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela. Reproducing images of installations, sculptures, collages, paintings and films, the book also advances the thesis that Martin Margiela has always been an artist. Internationally renowned in the fashion world since the late 1980s, throughout his career as a designer Margiela has deliberately upended the conventions of fashion through his materials and his runway shows. The works at the Lafayette Anticipations exhibition, most of which were made in the Foundation’s studio, return to the artist’s obsessions. The body is very much in evidence here, from anatomies inspired by the academic tradition to hair and skin in almost abstract form.

La carrière exceptionnelle de François Morelli se déploie sur quatre décennies, investissant sur plus de six disciplines artistiques à leur manière à travers le temps. In her works, Ulla von Brandenburg interlinks various genres to create highly symbolic, staged presentations: sculpture, installation and film, performance, fashion and music, silhouettes and wall drawings. The exhibition space becomes a stage for her examination of the various modes of expression found in theater, the play with fiction and reality, role and identity. For her solo exhibition in the Darmstadt Artists' Colony Museum, Ulla von Brandenburg focuses on an installation developed specifically for this venue, which stands in connection with the unique history of the Mathildenhöhe as a think tank and experimental laboratory of modernism. She stages works from the Darmstadt Municipal Art Collection in combination with her own objects, whereby the focus is laid not only on the historic reception of the works, but also on questions of presentation, perception, and mediation.

Collaborating with a varied cast of characters--beekeepers, mycologists, astronomers, physicists, bees, cats, snowballs, tango dancers, passersby, plants, curators, hotel porters--Canadian artist Diane Borsato creates works that propose eccentric models for relating to one another and to the world. For her project "Italian Lessons," she attempted to learn Italian by learning salsa, physics, first aid and beekeeping by way of Italian instruction. In "Terrestrial/Celestial," Borsato coordinated an unconventional exchange of observational practices--from opposite ends of the scale--between amateur mycologists and amateur astronomers. In a new work, "Walking Studio," Borsato proposes a different space for research and reflection with her mobile field study lab, comprised of a study center and fully functional sauna. This overview is published to accompany a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of York University in 2012.

This book is a small collection of some of the work McFetridge has done for Spike Jonze's film adaptation of the book Where the Wild Things Are. Born in Canada, but trained at the California Institute of the Arts, McFetridge won public acclaim as a designer when he was still a student. For two years, he was art director of the famous underground Beastie Boys magazine Grand Royal. Since then he has worked for numerous clients ranging from Nike, Pepsi, and Stüssy to Burton, Girl and 2K/Gingham. He made clips for Plaid, Simian, and recently also for The Whitest Boy Alive, and he created film title sequences for The Virgin Suicides and Adaptation. He is one of the Beautiful Losers, and makes solo exhibitions from Los Angeles to Paris and from London to Tokyo.

The title of this beautiful Penguin Classic look-alike collection of essays and pictures is taken from a poem that Michael Elmgreen wrote when he was 19 years old. The poem describes, in its own simple, youthful manner, issues of emotional homelessness. Home traditionally alludes to family, local context and nationality--to structures which are pre-set and often disconnected to one's individual desires. The Norwegian-Danish artist duo asked friends and colleagues to react to their own notions of home--as a place they left... or didn't. Featuring texts and image-based contributions by the likes of Bill Arning, Henrik Olesen, Jakob Kolding, Monica Bonvicini, Jens Hoffmann and David Shrigley, among many others. Berlin-based Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset have collaborated since 1995. They have had recent solo exhibitions at the Serpentine Gallery in London and The Power Plant in Toronto.
