Résumé:
When his 24-hour film The Clock was awarded the Golden Lion at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011, Christian Marclay’s hour had struck. Yet as an artist, performer and pioneer of turntablism, the Swiss-American Christian Marclay (born 1955) had already been famous for his complex oeuvre for more than 30 years, translating sounds and music into visual forms in his performances, installations, collages, sculptures and photographs, creating new sensory experiences that his viewers had never before experienced. Comic books and mangas are the source material for Marclay’s most recent works: the immersive video animation "Surround Sounds" (2014–15) and the series of Onomatopoeia paintings and works on paper inspired by the wet, liquid sounds of painting. Christian Marclay: Action, an extensive monographic survey, covers the entire spectrum of the artist’s multimedia and synaesthetic oeuvre, from previously little-known early works to his most recent paintings and video.

Résumé:
Over the course of a year, Brian Rose set out to photograph all the neighborhoods at the ends of the subway lines in New York City. He had multiple reasons for engaging in such a project, but the strongest was the desire to portray New York as a highly diverse, multi-centered metropolis. Having spent a major part of his career photographing the city through often challenging times – the dichotomy of destruction and creativity of the 1980s, the mortal wounding of 9/11, and the suspended animation of the Covid-19 pandemic – Rose was perhaps uniquely equipped to document the city at this moment of political uncertainty under the increased strain of new arrivals, many of whom are refugees from around the world. For a new generation of New Yorkers, the trains roll on ceaselessly, and despite the title, ''Last Stop'' is not so much about endings as it is about reinvention.

Résumé:
Miles Davis's seminal recording, known as Birth of the Cool, is the starting point for this colorful, multi-disciplinary journey through 1950s West Coast America. 1950s West Coast style exuded "cool": from the smooth, hypnotic strains of a Miles Davis riff through Richard Neutra's elegant, modernist residences to the hard-edged paintings of Helen Lundeberg and Karl Benjamin. This richly illustrated volume casts a fresh eye on Fifties West Coast style with illuminating commentary from a variety of perspectives. Designed to echo the period it celebrates, this catalog explores modernist innovations in art, architecture, design, film and music. Prominent cultural critics write on an array of topics: Thomas Hine about the culture of cool; Elizabeth Smith on domestic aspects of the period's architecture; Francis Colpitt on hard-edged abstract painting; Dave Hickey on jazz, and Bruce Jenkins on the crossover between animation and experimental film. The result is a multi-faceted exploration of the 1950s West Coast zeitgeist in all its color, creativity, and cool.
