Résumé:
Lurking under the surface of our modern world lies an unseen architecture—or anarchitecture. It is a possible architecture, an analogous architecture, an architecture of anarchy, which haunts in the form of monsters that are humans and machines and cities all at once; or takes the form of explosions, veils, queer, playful spaces, or visions from artwork and video games. In The Monster Leviathan, Aaron Betsky traces anarchitecture through texts, design, and art of the twentieth and early twenty-first century, and suggests that these ephemeral evocations are concrete proposals in and of themselves. Neither working models nor suggestions for new forms, they are scenes just believable enough to convince us they exist, or just fantastical enough to open our eyes.

Résumé:
Digital currencies (cryptocurrencies) and digital property require large amounts of land, resources, and data centers and infrastructures to store these ''supplies''. There is a larger architectural and urban infrastructural challenge and urgency on how these various kinds of digital exchanges are mediated, to limit the detrimental use of our everyday resources. Using a mixed-media approach, this book couples a novel exploration of XR (mixed-reality) and AR (augmented reality) into several parts of the book. To prolong the shelf-life of emergent data and case-studies on the topic, the book is complemented with an open-access digital platform for readers to access video interviews with the industry experts, diagrammatic mapping and graphical cartography, and 3D artifacts that shows how data interacts with phygital properties.

Résumé:
"Earth matter" delves into the history of extractivism in Chile, beginning with the nitrate mines in the Atacama Desert in the nineteenth century and extending to the ongoing extraction of copper, lithium, and water. Through photography, video, archival research, and personal interviews, artist-researchers Xavier Ribas, Ignacio Acosta, and activist-writer Louise Purbrick examine the interconnected forces that bind Chile’s natural resources to global capital, particularly in the financial district of London. This publication offers a critical analysis of how extractivist practices have shaped both historical and contemporary life, while anticipating future forms of exploitation. An index of terms explores past and present facts, documents, sites, projects, politicians, activists, NGOs, and critical writings, forming a Benjaminian constellation that readers can connect and decipher at their own pace.

Résumé:
This issue focuses on how architectural skills are deployed in entertainment to communicate design and form the backdrops for stories to play out. It includes articles on installations, exhibition designs, entertainment architecture, narrative projects, speculations on future human identities, video gaming, and memorial tombs – an international plethora of staged examples of how architectural thinking can bring vitality to situations not usually perceived to be within the realms of traditional practice. The issue engages with popular culture, fictions, art, performance, technology, and architectural history and theory. Exploring the full spectrum of spatial propositions that architects can bring to staging events, the work featured is theatrical and exuberant, and the product of many collaborative architectural voices including curators, artists, performers, digital intelligences, fabricators, and writers.

Résumé:
Updated to cover all the latest developments, "Architecture in the age of artificial intelligence" introduces AI for designers and explores its seismic impact on the future of architecture and design. From ChatGPT and smart assistants to groundbreaking diffusion models for video and 3D modelling, this updated new edition investigates the profound effects of AI technologies on architectural practice. It explores how AI transforms every part of the process-from the inspiration and brief, to regulations and copyright, to performance-driven design- and looks beyond discussions of software and functionality to ask more fundamental questions too: How did AI evolve? How does it work? What does it tell us about creativity? And what does it mean for the very future of the profession itself?

Résumé:
The street is the workplace of the artist Paulien Oltheten (b. Nijmegen, 1982). Seemingly in passing, she seeks out precisely those moments when there is contact between people, things and the public space with her still and moving viewfinders. She also has a remarkable eye for the small and the subtle: her photos are often profoundly touching. Street Theory brings together about a hundred photos, video stills and drawings by Oltheten, each of which testifies to how we use, move through, sit, lounge and behave in the public domain, and above all how we relate to other people and objects. Oltheten often annotates these striking images and intriguing situations with handwritten notes that become an integral part of the whole, adding a new, narrative layer of meaning.

Résumé:
The British artist Spartacus Chetwynd (*1973, lives and works in London) is known for her baroque and surreal performances which, with great humor, bring together multiple image quotations from art history and pop culture. In the tradition of the grotesque she draws on elements from Giotto frescoes, characters from works by Hieronymus Bosch, or Yves Kleins "Anthropometries" (1960) together with heavy metal musicians, Michael Jacksons music video "Thriller," or the 1980s television series "The Hulk," and creates a unified whole. As well as performances, Chetwynd, who graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in painting, produced a series small canvases under the title "Bat Opera" (2004/2005), which also present quotations from pop culture, but in addition feature more romantic borrowings.

Résumé:
By highlighting specific creative approaches and studying the sites and collective platforms that enable these practices, this book examines the critical mass that has gathered across generations of African image-makers and lens-based artists. In accentuating different perspectives within this generation and considering the infrastructures that often link them, Recent Histories provides a point of entry to engage critically with current practices, and opens up considerations about how to conceptualize the frameworks of contemporary African photography and video art. Recent Histories features the work of Edson Chagas, Mimi Cherono Ng’ok, Andrew Esiebo, Em’kal Eyongakpa, François- Xavier Gbré, Simon Gush, Délio Jasse, Lebohang Kganye, Sabelo Mlangeni, Mame-Diarra Niang, Dawit L. Petros, Zina Saro-Wiwa, Thabiso Sekgala and Michael Tsegaye.
