Résumé:
The IFCCA Prize Competition for the Design of Cities fonds primarily documents the activities involved in the organization and realization of the Prize Competition, as well as the most active years of the IFCCA. The fonds is made up of primarily of textual documents dating from 1992 to 2001. The Prize Competition challenged architects from around the world to rethink and redesign a site on the western edge of Manhattan, New York City, New York. Five finalists were chosen by a jury of well known figures in the architecture field, and given four months to complete their proposals. Peter Eisenman, Peter Eisenman Architects, New York City, was declared the winner on 28 June 1999. Two exhibitions of the work of the finalists, in New York City (1999, with an accompanying colloquium) and at the CCA in Montreal (2000-2001) followed the Prize Competition.

Description:
This project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape design for the Mill Creek Public Housing Complex between 40th Street, Aspen Street, and Fairmount Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Oberlander worked on this project in the early 1950s as Dan Kiley's associate. They both were consulting for Louis Kahn's office, Kahn, McAllister, Braik, & Day. The first phase of the project consisted of a complex of three seventeen-storey apartment towers accomodating 218 units on a four-acre site. The landscape design consisted of a system of pedestrian areas to connect the site with the city, including a central alley linking Fairmount Avenue to a common green space. Trees to provide shade were planted around the parking spaces and the housing towers. The project was completed in 1954, but most of the landscaping by Kiley and Oberlander was never realized. The Mill Creek complex was demolished in 2002 to make space for the new low-rise public housing development. The project series contains only two reprographic copies of landscape plans. This project series documents a new building for the Fields Institute of Research in Mathematical Sciences at the University of Toronto from 1993-1995. The office identified the project number as 9318. This project consisted of a four-storey building, characterized by a rusticated limestone and red-brick exterior, located at 222 College Street. The building's layout consisted of offices, conference rooms, classrooms, resource centres, computer training facilities, a library, and the main lobby and reception. At the core was a grand atrium with a wood-lined helical staircase that ran the height of the building, a stucco fireplace and an elliptical reception desk. Designed to encourage spontaneous thought and interaction, the institute featured slate chalkboards throughout. The roof was comprised of a Douglas fir deck on metal trusses, while the interior finishes included tiles, carpet, wood, metal, stone and concrete.[1] The project is recorded through drawings, photographic materials, a presentation painting and textual records dating from 1993-1996. The drawings are mostly originals and include sketches, presentation drawings, plans, elevations, sections, details, perspectives and axonometric drawings. This project series documents the project "Glass Station", a gas station constructed on an irregularly-shaped site at the entrance to the town of Oguni in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. The project was completed in 1993. The office, pumps, shop and work space of the service station are covered by an undulating canopy composed of asymmetrical concrete arches that form the boundaries of a lattice of pretensioned steel rods and aluminum channels into which panels of glass bonded to sheets of perforated stainless steel were inserted, sealed with polyester film, and secured with structural silicon. The project series is chiefly composed of design development drawings. It includes numbered sets of architectural drawings and structural drawings and some mechanical and electrical drawings. There is a set of unnumbered ink drawings and reproductions related to the geometry of the canopy. There are also some images of the canopy that are output from a computer file or files (wireframes and renderings). There is a small amount of textual material related to technical data and form finding for the canopy. The file also includes 2 study models. There are some graphic design documents for the name of the project and for the name "IDEX". Material in this file was created between 1990 and 1993.

This project series documents an addition and renovations to Woodsworth College at the University of Toronto from 1986-1991. The office identified the project number as 18603. Before this work, the existing property consisted of four Victorian houses: the main College building at 119 St. George Street that had a large drill hall connected to the back, a house next to the drill hall, the Centre for Industrial Relations located at 121 St. Georges Street, and the Media Centre located at 123 St. Georges Street. This project consisted of interior renovations to the houses and the addition of an L-shaped building at the back of the property that connected to the drill hall and turned at the corner of the property towards the Media Centre house. This created a central courtyard in the centre of the property, between all the buildings. The new building was two storeys with an arcade toward the courtyard, a red brick facade and sheet metal roofing. This housed audio-visual rooms, editing rooms, offices and a workroom in the basement, classrooms and meeting rooms on the ground floor, and faculty offices, lounges and administrative areas on the second floor. A new entry tower and hall were constructed for the main College building. This building consisted of mechanical and electrical rooms in the basement, student spaces and administrative offices on the ground floor, and administrative offices and meeting rooms on the second and third floors. Barton Myers Associates worked as the consulting architects on this project. The project is recorded through drawings and photographic materials dating from 1986-1991. The drawings include sketches, drawings for the project model, sections, floor and site plans, elevations, details, axonometric drawings, perspectives, and structural drawings. There are a large number of detail drawings for furnishings and architectural elements. The photographic materials consist of aerial views and photographs of the finished project.
