Les ponts de Paris appartiennent à la légende. Ils racontent chacun à leur façon l'histoire des transformations de la capitale. La passerelle Simone-de-Beauvoir s'inscrit dans cette mythologie. Née avec le XXIe siècle et ouverte aux piétons l'été 2006, elle est un trait tendu sur 300 mètres entre la bibliothèque François-Mitterrand et les terrasses du parc de Bercy, elle est un lien entre les nouveaux quartiers des rives gauche et droite, elle est un nouvel espace public dans la ville avant que d'être une œuvre d'architecture et d'ingénierie d'une liberté rare. Ce livre raconte la genèse de cette passerelle depuis sa conception jusqu'à sa réalisation.
