Résumé:
Based in Dublin, Cork and London, O'Donnell + Tuomey Architects are revered for their work with urban design, public and private housing, and key educational and cultural buildings in Ireland, the Netherlands and the UK. In London they are best known for two major projects: the Photographers' Gallery and the London School of Economics Saw Swee Hock Student Centre. Sheila O'Donnell and John Tuomey, who both taught at University College Dublin and lecture internationally, constantly look at the way in which different geographical, social and political influences have shaped their iconic works and approach to architecture generally. This book, which is a second edition following the success of the first edition published in 2014, is divided into eight sections, each dealing with a different aspect of the practice's concerns: Studio, Courtyards, The World Outside, London Times, Subtraction and Addition, Venice Excursions, Building Ground and Cat's Cradles. Somewhere between a monograph and a memoir, a studio portfolio and a personal scrapbook, this book describes some of the motivating ideas behind the architects' iconic designs. Nine short essays, alternately written by Sheila O'Donnell and John Tuomey, set the theoretical background for thirteen projects carried out between 1999-2014. Illustrations range from early stage concept sketches to specific photography that has been especially commissioned for the book, to evocatively capture the essence of O'Donnell and Tuomey's buildings.

Résumé:
The works of the New York-based artist Vito Acconci are more often than not about creating a public defined via the body - from his radical performances at the beginning of the seventies to his unusual architectural designs since the establishment of the Acconci Studio at the end of the eighties. His work Courtyard in the Wind for the new building of the Technisches Rathaus in Munich, a building which houses the city´s architectural department, was the first permanent structure by Acconci to be realized in a public space: A revolving ring of landscape in the courtyard may be moved with the aid of the artist´s wind power plant located on top of the Rathaus tower. This title is the first to document this project by the artist and at the same time grants valuable insights into the paradigm of architectural designs by the Acconci Studio. The book also features texts by Vito Acconci about the body, architecture and public space. An instructive essay by Heinz Schütz reviewing Acconci's works from the last decades opens up the horizon against which Courtyard in the Wind is set.

Résumé:
Now firmly established as one of the world’s greatest photographers, Saul Leiter (1923–2013) was relatively little known until the 2006 publication of "Saul Leiter: Early Color", when he was already in his eighties. Choosing to shoot in color when black and white was the norm, Leiter portrayed midcentury New York’s street life with a gorgeous painterliness that evoked the sensuality of his Abstract Expressionist contemporaries Rothko and Newman. His studio in the East Village, where he lived from 1952 until his death in 2013, is now the home of the Saul Leiter Foundation, which has commenced a full-scale survey of his more than 80,000 works. This volume contains works discovered through this project—specifically, color photography from slides never before published or seen by the public.

Résumé:
Among LeWitt's great contributions to art was the invention of his own economic model Not to Be Sold For More Than $100 presents a comprehensive overview of conceptualist pioneer Sol LeWitt’s numbered R Series drawings, which he created from approximately 1971 to 1979. As early as 1967, LeWitt had started making cut, folded and torn works, which he intended would always sell for $100. “His wall drawings were already selling for thousands of dollars, so he wanted to have some artwork that everybody could buy,” notes Jason Rulnick. This body of work consists of over 800 folded, torn and cut paper works, including cut maps, reproductions, and manipulated silver gelatin photographs. Thanks to extensive research throughout various private and public collections around the world, this volume includes over 100 color plates, along with an index/description of all 870 known works, information that has been made available through the artist's day books and journals uncovered (in the studio) by Veronica Roberts.

This overview of his three-decade-long practice offers a full account of his numerous projects, from early pieces such as "Beauty" (1993), in which a spotlight shines on the mist produced by thousands of droplets, to the ambitious works produced from his Berlin studio, where he collaborates with architects, art historians, technicians, engineers, designers and cooks. With essays by Eliasson, Daniel Birnbaum and Timothy Morton, "Olafur Eliasson: Reality Machines" is a new definitive account of this artist's prolific oeuvre.

Résumé:
Le Corbusier had originally intended to be a painter and his early studies were primarily focused on art and decoration. For more than five decades, Le Corbusier oscillated between contradictory poles : his fascination with mechanical objects on the one hand, and his search for poetic form on the other. The intermingling of his more private aesthetic pursuits and his more public works took place in his “secret laboratory,” inside his artist’s studio. This volume consolidates the diverse facets of his oeuvre, offering a more complete understanding of his paintings, drawings, sculptures, tapestries, furniture, architectural sketches and plans - as well as his books and photographs.
