Résumé:
The first of two features in this issue presents five projects recently designed by contemporary Chilean offices, all manifestations of an architectural style meant to enhance life in isolation, away from the city and embedded in the natural landscape. Highlighted are houses by Pezo Von Ellrichshausen, Max Núñez, Ampuero Yutronic, Schmidt Associates Architects, and Felipe Assadi Arquitectos. The second feature, entitled ''Against the Typology'', explores five new manifestations in housing for students, showing how the collective dynamics and programme inherent to these buildings and spatial sequences has influenced the architectural conception to the point of characterising it.

When departments within an organisation fail to share information with each other, the popular term is “silo mentality”. Universities also suffer from this phenomenon, with learning and research in one field literally walled off from others. But architecture can create a very different environment: transparent, flexible, interactive. The magazine examines ''UCL East Marshgate'', designed by Stanton Williams, and the Faculty of Arts at Warwick University by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios as excellent examples. Also in this issue, a special feature on the Chilean practice of Pezo von Ellrichshausen and new work by Snøhetta, Wallmarkers, Peter Pichler Architecture, Atelier FCJZ, and more.

Résumé:
Modern glass facades are technically demanding and fascinating in design. Glass as a building material has diverse characteristics, even contrary on occasion, and architects are increasingly using the high design potential of fully glazed facades in representative building projects outside of the typical office typology. An essay by Christian Schittich opens an exploration of this transformative element of architecture through fourteen works designed by as many architects. Projects range from a Shanghai tea house by Atelier Deshaus and Mikkelsen Arkitekter’s Rambøll Headquarters in Copenhagen, to works by Atelier Kempe Thill, Wiel Arets, Pezo von Ellrichshausen and more.

Résumé:
This volume brings the focus back to the sensual aspects of architecture—the subtle and intangible ways it impacts human experience—through the work of six leading architects from around the world. Conversations with each of these architects—Grafton Architects, Kengo Kuma, Li Xiaodong, Francis Kéré, Pezo von Ellrichshausen, and Eduardo Souto de Moura and Álvaro Siza—show the multiplicity of ways in which different approaches to the built environment can affect the way in which we connect with our surroundings. An introduction by Philip Ursprung explores the background to this humanistic approach to design, and preparatory sketches illustrate key buildings by each of the architects.
