Résumé:
Films use architecture as visual shorthand to tell viewers everything they need to know about the characters in a short amount of time. Illustrated by a diverse range of films from different eras and cultures, this book investigates the reciprocity between film and architecture. Using a phenomenological approach, it describes how we, the viewers, can learn how to read architecture and design in film in order to see the many inherent messages. Architecture’s representational capacity contributes to the plausibility or 'reality' possible in film. The book provides an ontological understanding that clarifies and stabilizes the reciprocity of the actual world and a filmic world of illusion and human imagination, thereby shedding light on both film and architecture.

Résumé:
For "Breaking protocol", transdisciplinary artist Maria Hupfield embarked on a research project on the protocols of Indigenous performance—tracing Indigenous knowledge systems, land-preservation practices and feminist scholarship to illuminate strategies for enacting refusal within decolonial frameworks. The book draws from Hupfield’s "Coffee Break"—a series of conversations held over Zoom during the pandemic, in which Hupfield invited international Indigenous performance artists to discuss their work (from dance to stand-up comedy), who in turn invited other artists to join the conversations. Building on these exchanges, "Breaking protocol" asks what we can learn from Indigenous, place-based artistic modes of making and practice to open spaces for reciprocity and multiplicity.

Résumé:
This issue follows a tripartite trajectory regarding formal studies. On the one hand, it includes reflections on the way built form is produced, while, on the other, it gathers studies that examine how architectural form appears in discursive and communicative terms. Finally, it serves as an attractor for multiple inquiries into the different relations that can be established between human actions, understood in the broadest possible terms, and the shape of the built environment. By interrelating these three approaches, the aim is to embrace and braid object-based approaches to form with approaches that examine the reciprocity of formal emergence and studies dealing with in-formation.

Résumé:
Extending the figure-ground visual paradox to a fundamental architectonic problem – that of the reciprocity between a wall and a window – this book by Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen reflects on the intersection between painting and architecture. If a window is inherently a subtraction of a wall’s surface but also an infill with a "view" beyond it, a painting is as much a flat, opaque surface as the illusion of space beyond. Containing over 1,000 works, including paintings, sketches, and line drawings, this alphabetical catalogue presents a broad examination of the Chilean duo’s practice to date. The book also includes an essay by the authors and an index of the artworks.
