Résumé:
Though inextricably linked with digital tools and culture, Antoine Picon argues that some significant traits in ornament persist from earlier Western architectural traditions. These he defines as the ‘subjective’ – the human interaction that ornament requires in both its production and its reception – and the political.

Résumé:
In Manhattan Atmospheres , David Gissen explores the rise of the “late-modern” architectural environment as a form of “socio-nature” during New York City’s crisis years. The period between the mid-1960s and early 1980s in New York City has long been a case-study in the collapse of urban networks. Images of blighted buildings, degraded landscapes, and collapsed infrastructure typify the way this period in the city have been represented. But rather than a site of urban collapse, the ambition of New York City’s built environment continued, albeit inside the environments of late-modern architectural space.

Résumé:
No other concept has disturbed and disfigured our understanding of energy more than the seemingly innocent idea of isolation. Further, no other material practice in architecture has systemically reinforced this errant idea than insulation. In too many cases, architects and engineers treat buildings as increasingly "efficient" isolated systems without any regard for the larger energy hierarchies of a building. This is the exact opposite of how architects should engage energy.

Curators of architecture exhibitions are often concerned with the problem of how to present objects that ultimately cannot be brought into the exhibition space. Such shows are often difficult for lay audiences to interpret little focus is placed on communication. However, there are also architecture exhibits that concentrate on communicating an experience, making it possible to build an intense relationship between the audience and the content on display. The result of a research project organized in 2013 by the faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bozen Bolzano, Displayed Spaces focuses on the question of how spaces might communicate architectural ideas in a redevelopment project and its accompanying exhibition proposed for the city of Bolzano, Italy.
