Résumé:
“This Place” is a monumental photographic project that explores Israel and the West Bank, as place and metaphor, through the eyes of 10 internationally celebrated photographers: Frédéric Brenner, Wendy Ewald, Martin Kollar, Josef Koudelka, Jungjin Lee, Stephen Shore, Rosalind Fox Solomon, Thomas Struth, Jeff Wall and Nick Waplington. Their photographs question the history, the divisions and paradoxes of the region and its inhabitants. From the photographers’ differing visual vocabularies, nationalities and cultural backgrounds, the picture that emerges is not a single, monolithic vision but rather a diverse and fragmented portrait.

Résumé:
Takashi Homma's New Waves exhibition at the Longhouse Projects gallery presents a series of work rooted in psychological phenomena, pictorial meditation, and temporal space as a trichotomy: land/sea/sky. Photographed at the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, this thirteen year project depicts the coastline continuously un-changed by climate or seasons. In the essay “Cresting,” philosopher and art critic David LaRocca writes that Homma’s photographs “do not evoke the same response in us every time; they are, we are tempted to say, individual (or at least individuated) to such an extent that like each frame from Homma's camera, each instant in the life of this water-as-wave exists as an enigmatic particularity.” Each photograph therefore, provides a unique lens in which to contemplate the complex relationships that arise in viewing each seascape.

Résumé:
This publication reissues a beloved photobook classic that has been out of print since the hardcover edition was published in 2010. As photographer Jason Fulford recently learned firsthand, mushrooms have a way of growing and spreading wherever they touch ground. It all started when a friend of Fulford's gave him a box, found at a flea market, full of photos of mushrooms—unassuming pictures taken by an unknown but almost certainly amateur photographer, apparently as notes for some mycological studies. These mushroom images got stuck in Fulford's mind, like a bad song sometimes does, and they started to grow in his own work. The Mushroom Collector combines some of the original flea-market mushroom pictures with his own images and text by the artist about the project.

Résumé:
In 1978, Zofia Rydet (1911–97) began work on a monumental project that would come to be known as her ''Sociological Record'': photographing the people of Poland at their homes, she produced an extraordinary archive of around twenty thousand negatives. The undertaking consumed Rydet so completely that she was never able to give it final shape through a book or an art show. ''Object Lessons'', a new volume of essays inspired by an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, helps to dispel the myths that have formed around the project in recent years and introduces the photographer to a new global audience. Rydet herself remained unresolved over the question of how to define her work, leaving the viewer to ponder whether her magnum opus is a piece of art or science. What does remain undisputed is that ''Sociological Record'' is a striking testimony of its time.

Résumé:
"Unwired" combines two concurrent projects by Dutch photographer Jacqueline Hassink (born 1966), both of which address our increasingly digitally connected world. In "Unwired Landscapes", she seeks out those few remaining places where it is still impossible to broadcast a network: remote areas like the Japanese island of Yakushima, the Norwegian group of islands Svalbard known as Spitsbergen or the uninhabitable volcanic desert of Iceland, or artificially created dead zones in urban spaces, such as a Digital Detox Hotel in Baden Baden. Her second project, "iPortrait", seems to be the exact opposite of her first: it portrays people immersed in their smartphones in the subways of big cities such as New York, Paris, London, Moscow, Shanghai, Seoul and Tokyo. Here, she reveals the other side of digital networking, showing how it intensifies alienation between people.

Résumé:
This elegant, boxed set introduces two new works by Thomas Demand, both presented during the 2007 Venice Biennale. The first volume presents "Processo Grottesco," a life-sized paper model of a grotto, complete with stalagmites and stalactites, that was exhibited along with other source materials and Demand's final photographic images. With a section of its pages cut in two, so that one can flip through old cave postcards on top or details of the finished artwork on the bottom, this volume contains rich, exhaustive documentation of the project, including historical documents, working drawings, models in progress, close-up details and final artworks, as well as an essay by Germano Celant. The second, slimmer, silver-edged volume presents the Yellowcake photographs, which portray the Nigerian Embassy in Rome--famous for "sparking" the United States' 2003 invasion of Iraq. It includes essays by Robert Storr and Alex Farquharson, as well as a summary of "Nigergate" by investigative journalist Carlo Bonini.

Résumé:
Architects’ mock-ups typically represent an abstracted, idealistic vision, and their models are generally understood as filtered interpretations of the environment, which tend toward the utopian. For this publication, conceptual artist and photographer Thomas Demand visited the untidy office of SANAA in Tokyo several times, exploring the aggregated environment he found there, where paper and discarded cardboard – the thought process of every project – survives in a sedimentary layering of materials. The resulting series of photographs shows an abstracted landscape of architectonic forms, devoid of human scale or reference, yet resonating with the language of creativity.

Résumé:
Berlin-based photographer Jean Molitor has been traveling around the world since 2009, tracking the legacy of the Bauhaus. A century after the founding of the school, several generations of architects have confronted or been reared on the innovations of Bauhaus architecture. Trailblazers, allies and heirs to modernism are united by an architectural language generally described as "Bauhaus." In his Bau1haus project, Molitor focuses on the aesthetics of Bauhaus-influenced architecture across the globe; his pictures make it possible to perceive the continuity of the school's legacy and its architectural language across cultures in a clear fashion.
