Architects usually try to create finished buildings, i.e. coherent works of architecture for eternity. But does this claim stand up to reality? Should that be the claim at all? After all, it can’t be ruled out that the building will change after completion. Inspired by references from architectural history, art and anthropology, Kaiser Shen Studio developed various theses at the beginning of its practice and tested them on the basis of its own projects. Central to this is the question of how buildings change in their lifespan due to external influences and what this change means for permanence in architecture and for the idea of space.

Résumé:
Who is Amsterdam, really? This book presents the Dutch capital as experienced by the residents themselves. Many who call Amsterdam home – especially those most often pushed to the margins – translate their experiences into maps, drawings, photos, and graphics. You’ll see streets you’ve not yet walked down, far beyond the historical centre, through the eyes of people you may not have met, but who could be your neighbours. These pages illustrate unsung neighbourhoods, subjective mundanities, vital criticism, and declarations of love, creating a nuanced collection that captures something difficult to quantify or make tangible: how cultures shape a city. Initiated by the Architecture Centre of Amsterdam (Arcam), this book, and the plural realities within it, reflect on how to make the city a better place, for everyone.

This book presents seven interviews with the architectural historian reflecting on the long arc of his rich and influential career in the discipline. Spanning Frampton’s early years as an architecture student at the Guildford School of Art to his nearly fifty years as a professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, the interviews trace not only the development and implications of his work but also the cultural, political, and discursive terrain surrounding it. Here Frampton outlines the formation of his seminal ideas of "critical regionalism" and "tectonic culture," and also ruminates on how he understands his own role as a writer on architecture. The book includes an essay by Mary McLeod, which takes stock of Frampton’s "criticality" and his enduring impact on architectural practice. As a whole, this volume is as much a portrait of a thinker as a record of the books, buildings, and ideas that have inspired such profound architectural thought.

Résumé:
John Hejduk is known to critics as a theoretician, teacher, poet and draftsman of extraordinary architecture, but he was above all an architect and builder in the deepest way. His built architectures have been rarely investigated but they manifest that his work finds its purpose in the act of building. This book attempts to give a complete interpretation of his built work, which includes a number of buildings and architectural installations created between 1980 and 2000, through the analysis of archival documents, analytical drawings and an extensive photographic apparatus, showing the tangible value of Hejduk's thought on architecture and the important role played by his works in the transformation of the city.

Résumé:
Centred on the Fundación ENAIRE by GFA2, this volume is the opening publication in a new series, ''First works''. Often going untold, the series attempts to package and present the making of early built work of young and emerging architects. It is an effort to make evident not only the finished documents of a building but those that tell the story of how the process was undertaken and the challenges were navigated. Collectively, the series acts as both a repository of emerging work, an opportunity for a young generation of architects to publish, and as a guide of sorts for the generation below them who are yet to complete their own first work. GFA2 is an architectural practice based in Santander, Spain, and Sydney, Australia. Co-founded by Gabriel and Guillermo Fernández-Abascal in 2018, the office approaches design from an intellectual and technical background, simultaneously. GFA2’s collaborative environment enables the delivery of a broad set of projects across various scales and locations. The projects are clear and direct, creating spatial frameworks where contemporary life unfolds in all their complexity.
