Résumé:
Traditional Japanese packaging is an art form that applies sophisticated design and natural aesthetics to simple objects. Largely constructed of bamboo, rice straw, hemp twine, paper, and leaves, all of the objects shown here are made from natural materials. Through photographs of authentic examples of traditional Japanese packaging—with commentary on the origins, materials, and use of each piece—the items here offer a look into a lost art, while also reminding us of the connection to nature and the human imprint of handwork that was once so alive and vibrant in our everyday lives. This classic book was originally published under the title How to Wrap Five More Eggs in 1975.

Résumé:
Over the past six years, documentary photographer and architectural historian Julia Reyes Taubman has taken more than 30,000 photographs across the sprawled terrain of Detroit, ambitiously mapping out a comprehensive survey of a major American city. Photographing on the ground, in the buildings and by air and water, Reyes Taubman believes that when buildings and landscape are manipulated by nature and time they become more visually compelling than almost any architectural intervention. As Reyes Taubman scrutinizes this 138-square-mile metropolis in transition, she pays particular attention to the scale and the solidity of the buildings that characterized the former “Motor City” at the height of its industrial wealth and power. More than a photographic saturation job of a single city, Detroit: 138 Square Miles provides contextual perspective in an extended caption section in which Reyes Taubman collaborated with University of Michigan professors Robert Fishman and Michael McCulloch to emphasize the social imperatives driving her documentation. An essay by native Detroiter and bestselling author Elmore Leonard addresses the social and cultural significance of the post-industrial condition of this metropolis. The volume's spine is specially treated with black ink to evoke the industrial character of its subject.

Résumé:
The extravagant villas designed between the 1960s and 1980s by Italian architect Mario Galvagni (1928-2020) for prosperous Lombard families. Suspended shell structures, underground living rooms and luminous domes. On the Lombard plain between the Ticino valley and the industrial outskirts of Milan, ensconced amid fields of crops, lies Inveruno, home to the architecture of Mario Galvagni, designed between the 1960s and 1980s for local industrial families. These villas would host large dinner parties and masked balls, as captured in the photographs unearthed from Gianni Saracchi's archive. Each house is unique while still sharing something with the others: each is a temple where the industrious Lombard lives with his family and hosts fruitful business meetings.

Résumé:
The conversion and revitalisation of old industrial premises is a construction task which is increasingly important in the transition from an industrial society to a service society. The architect Michael A. Landes converted the site of the Union brewery in Frankfurt into a new urban district for the investor Ardi Goldman by cautiously supplementing the existing substance with a new building. This ensemble situated in Hanauer Landstrasse, Frankfurt's centre for creative people of all kinds, is convincing in the power of its architectural language and in its urban quality. A fine balance of access space and open spaces makes it into a city which is open for a wide range of uses.
