Assembled to honor Phyllis Lambert on her 80th birthday, these essays range from an architectural and archaeological reading of Chris Marker’s post-apocalyptic film La Jetée to Dravidian architecture in India; from Gordon Matta-Clark’s erasure of architecture to the persistence of asphalt; from the influence of Andy Warhol on ambient architecture past and present to the house in the museum and the museum in the house.

Résumé:
This volume assembles a new collection of essays and reminiscences by one of the preeminent art historians of our time. Spanning more than four decades of Yve-Alain Bois's work as a scholar, journal editor, and occasional curator, this volume traces a deeply personal itinerary through an important era of art history, in which the discipline was significantly reformulated by new methodologies. Detailing Bois's early relationships with figures such as Roland Barthes, Hubert Damisch, Lygia Clark, and Jacques Derrida, as well as his extended engagements with Rosalind Krauss, Ellsworth Kelly, and Martin Barré, these essays track Bois's intellectual commitments against the backdrop of an evolving academic field. With texts that range from academic journal articles to obituaries, written from 1976 to 2021, this book reveals the range of Bois's authorial voice and offers a remarkable self-portrait of one of art history's primary protagonists.

Résumé:
At the turn of the millennium--the end of a calibrated period of time--it seems necessary to ask certain questions, foremost among them: Anymore? Anymore history and theory? Anymore architecture? Of particular concern are the last two hundred years, a self-conscious period known as modernism. Can we assume that a simple calendar change signals an end or a time of end? Is there anymore? The contributions in "Anymore" are by architects, critics, historians, philosophers, sociologists, urbanists, and others. They include Akira Asada, Hubert Damisch, Peter Eisenman, Arata Isozki, Rem Koolhaas, Rosalind Krauss, Ignasi de Solà-Morales, Mark C. Taylor, Bernard Tschumi, and Anthony Vidler, as well as young architects from France whose work many American readers will encounter here for the first time. Anymore is the ninth book in the ongoing series that began in 1991 with "Anyone" and was followed by "Anywhere", "Anyway", "Anyplace", "Anywise", "Anybody", "Anyhow", and "Anytime". Each volume is based on a conference at which architects and leaders in other fields come together to present papers and discuss a particular idea in architecture from a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary perspective. The conference upon which "Anymore" is based took place in Paris in June 1999 and will be followed by "Anything".
