Description:
This project series documents the Nova Cervejaria in the Chiado district in Lisbon, Portugal. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 82/90. The office assigned the date 1997 to this project. The project consisted of a two-storey restaurant and brewery in the existing Castro e Melo building (also identified as Edifìcio 8/9) on Rua Nova do Almada. The design also included a basement level where the offices and service areas were to be located. This project is documented through reprographic copies of drawings and textual records dating from 1994-1997. The drawings consist of studies, floor plans and sections, while the textual records show correspondence and permit documents. Siza also built the Castro e Melo building (see project subseries AP178.1988.PR07.SS4 in this fonds) as part of the Reconstruction of Chiado project that began in 1988.

Description:
The project series documents the competition, design, and construction of a gymnastics pavillion in Retiro park for the Instituto Municipal de Deporte of Madrid, Spain. Abalos & Herreros were invited to enter this competition and won first prize in collaboration with Renata Sentkiewicz. The project includes changing rooms, offices and a gymnasium, and was integrated into the surrounding and growing vegetation of the park. The firm worked in collaboration with Fermina Garrido and Obiol y Moya. The firm identified this project as number 127. In 2004, the firm received the Public Initiative Award for this project at the 28th Premios de Urbanismo, Arquitectura y Obra Publica 2003 from the Madrid City Council. Documenting this project are presentation, design development and working drawings, correspondence, project descriptions, budgets, specifications, postcards, notes, and reference, graphic, photographic and digital materials.

Description:
This project series documents an addition to the Toronto Sun building in downtown Toronto from 1978-1980. The office identified the project number as 7816. From 1973-1975, Parkin Architects Planners designed and constructed the Toronto Sun press plant and office building at 333 King Street East. This project documents an office addition made to the original building. This consisted of the addition of three floors to the existing three-storey structure. The top floor, the sixth, was the main focus of this project and included the executive suite with offices, a boardroom, a sunroom, and a private cafeteria. The project is recorded through drawings and textual materials dating from 1979-1982. Most drawings are reprographic copies arranged within the textual materials. The textual records consist of correspondence, site and meeting reports, financial records, change orders, contractor and consultancy records, supplementary instructions, specifications, tender documents, schedules, interoffice letters, a project notebook and project agendas. File AP018.S1.1978.PR10.002 contains an index to the textual records, which was created by the office.

This project consisted of a one-storey building that contained process areas, equipment rooms, testing rooms, a shipping area and offices for technicians and engineers. The project was also known as the PVC Applications Laboratory, since its purpose to support marketing of Polyvinyl Chloride. This building, resting on a 102,400 square foot site, was designed with narrow slot type windows to ensure environmental controls could be met within it. It had a steel frame with dark sable brick exteriors and a plastic fascia manufactured by the client. The client's plastics were also used throughout the interiors. The project is recorded through drawings dating from 1965-1966. The drawings are mostly reprographic copies of construction plans, elevations, details, schedules, layouts, and mechanical, electrical and structural drawings.

This project series documents the Centro Cultural Manzana de Revellin in Ceuta, Spain. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 85/90. The office assigned the date 1997 to this project. The project site is located in the historic center of Ceuta. The project consists of five white buildings, including an auditorium, a museum, offices and shops, and two buildings for the school of music, school of languages and school of commerce. Each of the buildings is a different size and shape and occupies a city block. Collaborators on the project were Lia Kiladis, Angela Princiotto, Francesca Montalto, Andrea Smaniotto, Axel Baudendistel, Avelino Silva, Markus Elmiger, Nicola Natali, Rita Amaral, and Duarte Kruger. The project was realized between 1998 and 2012. Documenting this project are sketches, studies, presentation drawings, working drawings, and mechanical drawings. Textual material includes documentation about the structure, electricity, and acoustics of the auditorium. Photographs and negatives document the model.

The office assigned the dates 1991-1994 to this project. The building included a factory, offices, and loading docks. The brick was chosen as a reference to the production hall that burned down in 1981 on the project site. The curved bridge roof that connected Siza's building to Nicholas Grimshaw's building was conceived to not obstruct the view of Zaha Hadid's Fire Station. Siza also designed a 500 metre promenade that passed by the Vitra building and connected the Fire Station to the VitraHaus designed by Herzog & de Meuron. The project was realized. Documenting this project are sketches, studies, design development drawings, plans and details. Textual material includes project documentation and correspondence. Photographic materials document the project site, models, construction work and the built project. There is also a study model for this project.
