Résumé:
Among the main sources of Aalto's extensive output were commissions he obtained from Finnish industrialists, especially people in the wood and paper industries. These projects were extensive and multi-faceted, involving not only factories but office and residential buildings. Aalto's industrial architecture ranged from extensive neighbourhood planning to villas for upper management and modest wooden houses for workers. This volume examines Aalto's role in the service of Finnish industry with particular emphasis on the industrial and residential aspects of the Sunila project.

Résumé:
Making the Scene is a history of 1960s Yorkville, Toronto's countercultural mecca. It narrates the hip Village's development from its early coffee house days, when folksingers such as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell flocked to the scene, to its tumultuous, drug-fuelled final months. A flashpoint for hip youth, politicians, parents, and journalists alike, Yorkville was also a battleground over identity, territory, and power. Stuart Henderson explores how this neighbourhood came to be regarded as an alternative space both as a geographic area and as a symbol of hip Toronto in the cultural imagination.

Résumé:
Flaneur is a nomadic, independent magazine focussing on one street per issue. Following the oral history of the neighbourhood of Kypseli, the fifth issue of Flaneur Magazine finds itself entangled in a story-heavy microcosm. Fokionos Negri, once a river, now a broad and green, two-sided boulevard becomes a stage of overlapping narratives where stories are told and retold. As on every stage, the desire for the story is stronger than the need to subdue it to rigid logic. The magazine emerses itself in these fragments until they become our very own memory.

Résumé:
In recent decades, citizens active in urban governance have taken up their roles as autonomous subjects, negotiating with governmental actors on the reuse of vacant buildings while representing the wishes of fellow residents to create self-managed communal spaces that are open to neighbourhood residents. They have appropriated vacant properties — and, where possible, constructed new buildings — in line with their own interests, those of civic groups, and the common good. They work to create affordable working, living, cultural and community places in an increasingly commercialised urban environment. In this publication, these civic actors are referred to as citizen professionals (CPs).

Résumé:
Since the sixties, the American artist Keith Sonnier has introduced light into his sculptures and installations. In collaboration with architects Baumschlager & Eberle, Sonnier has recently created a light installation for an underground passage in the Munich Re Group building. Neon lighting bathes the corridors in intense colour, thereby taking on a spatial quality. For the new parish church of St. Franciscus in Steyr-Resthof in Upper Austria by the architects Riepl & Rieple, Sonnier developed an all-embracing concept whereby light is the sign of a liturgical venue and constitutes the focal point of an entire neighbourhood.

Résumé:
Over a five-year period, a modest poster board hung in a Minneapolis neighbourhood; it became a barometer for experimental typographic practice within the global design community. This dense volume documents the entire project, which was curated by Erik Brandt, and features works ranging from well-known designers to talented students. Conceptually approached like the ‘Ficciones Typografika’ project, the book is an expressive and visceral experience, rather than an encyclopaedic documentation. It reproduces every installation of work along with an overprint of the original posters. With a text by Ben DuVall and a conversation between Brandt and Paul Schmelzer.
