Résumé:
The movement of global populations, and subsequently the task of translation, underlies contemporary culture. Economic and environmental migration, forced political exiles, and the plight of refugees are now superimposed upon the intricacies of ancient and modern diasporas, generations of colonization, and the transportation of slaves. This timely anthology considers translation's ongoing role in cultural navigation, empathy, and understanding disparate experiences. It explores the approaches of artists, poets, and theorists in negotiating increasingly protean identities—from the intrinsic intimacy of language, to translation's embedded structures of knowledge production and interaction, to its limitations of expression, and, ultimately, its importance in a world of multiple perspectives.

Résumé:
City and country are generally regarded as opposites. But today’s landscape architecture explores both of them as a single system, making it possible to see the mutual dependency of these supposedly opposing developments. In view of massive changes in ecological systems, as well as increasing migration and the spread of unplanned human settlements, landscape architecture is also being confronted with global challenges. "Out there: landscape architecture in the global terrain" is a plea to redefine the discipline’s position. Innovative but complex approaches are presented in examples of specific projects from all over the world. Landscape architecture today commits itself to the spatial systems that will shape tomorrow’s society.

This publication adds to the small but growing number of studies on modern architecture in St. Louis.

We are witnessing a time of unprecedented migration to urban centres, and as such it is imperative to analyse what makes communities thrive. The density and urban fabric of neighbourhoods has a direct influence on the frequency and opportunity of interaction of locals. Nurturing and maintaining public amenities, green spaces, and infrastructure – both visible and invisible – in turn nurtures community as a whole and society at large. Among the sixteen featured projects are a scout hut in Copenhagen, a media library in Tbilisi, a grocery store in Italy, a community centre in Costa Rica, a bamboo sports hall for a school in Thailand, and an educational park in Colombia.

Résumé:
The increasing accumulation of people in living machines without history and the challenges presented by migration and the lack of space provoke a need for new thinking and acting in public spaces. "SUPERSUIT" is an interdisciplinary experiment at the demarcation between people and space. It is a tool for poetic interventions in a range of different urban situations that invites participation and queries the relationship between people, space and city in terms of sense perception. As a marker of public space, the spontaneously arising forms of "SUPERSUIT" respond directly to the parameters of urban context. Using the means of ‘performative interventions’ "SUPERSUIT" facilitates a change in current design processes and the conceptualizing of new people/material constellations.

Résumé:
"piyyut" is a long-form poem assembling fables from the Jewish Diaspora in an attempt to unsettle refugee migration stories while exhuming mystical, prophetic voices in post-Holocaust Europe. Verses are titled and informed by the aleph-bet and examine the entanglements of the diasporic experience through allegorical tales and critical Jewish settler confessionals. Each verse is paired with a drawing by visual artist Angela Henderson exploring the intersections between graphic notation and lyrical, poetic form. Combining and juxtaposing digitally- and hand-rendered elements, the hybridized landscapes both respond to and reflect the complex, speculative and sometimes brutalist journey through past and present.

Résumé:
Beyond The West inspires a fresh understanding of global contemporary architecture beyond the Western Countries. Architects throughout the world work against a backdrop of rapidly growing cities, changing societies and climate, and emerging economies. But while Western architecture has largely dominated the discourse, architecture firms from non-Western countries have been establishing local and global -recognition for themselves, often finding strikingly different solutions to local requirements, including sustainability, transportation and migration, construction materials, and traditions. Beyond The West journeys across Asia, Africa, and the Americas to under-stand how local architects respond to a changing world, and focuses its wide lens on inspiring and truly global architecture.

Résumé:
The devastation left in the wake of modernity and globalization is revealing a fragile and unfamiliar planet, and humanity has awakened to a new real. If the old “realist” tools of objectivism have contributed to capitalist society’s divorce from the natural world, how are artists finding new ways to make us really see—and feel—the planet? Surveying a body of planet-facing art, communal practices, and activism, Josephine Berry investigates art’s power to break with capitalist realism and decarbonize the imagination. With chapters on feeling as world-making, the rupture of petroleum landscapes, artists’ urban exodus, and migration as survival, ''Planetary Realism'' delves deeply into art’s necessary reimagining of life on Earth.

Jakarta Megalopolis focuses on two projects in the title city by artist and architect Stani Michiels and artist Arjan van Helmond. Each grapples with Jakarta's housing culture, the experience of private as opposed to public space and the consequences of city migration, as well as the city's infrastructure, increasing density, and its coherence--or lack thereof--as a whole. As megalopolises in developing countries undergo explosive growth, their cultural, social, political and economic complexities are developing at unprecedented rates. That phenomenon is drawing more and more attention within the world of architecture and art, and Jakarta Megalopolis offers a case study of its complexities, a cutaway view of this chaotic new world.

Résumé:
By bringing together the voices of a number of curators, scientists, scholars, designers, and artists, the XXII Triennale di Milano seeks to engage its visitors with questions of climate change, migration, artificial intelligence, politics, gender, labour, economics, social justice, and natural histories. This exhibition catalog highlights objects and concepts at all scales that reconsider humans' relationship with their environment, including research into both natural and social ecosystems. The aim is to trace design's ability to move us into a more constructive sense of indebtedness toward nature. This volume will appeal to the design community as well as a broader readership and scholars who study the sociological, economic, political, and personal ramifications of design as it relates to the environment.
