Projet
Chennai House
AP182.S1.2013.D1
Description:
File documents a project for a private house in Chennai, India. The design takes the form of a rectangular pavilion surrounding an open-air courtyard. The site is a former cricket pitch surrounded by a tropical garden. The structure is in granite, a material commonly used in Chennai, paired with lighter materials such as brick and timber. To address the city's hot and humid climate, the house is conceived as a porous structure that allows free circulation of air and water. An integrated irrigation system carries water between the home's corrugated roof, its exterior walls, and a series of surrounding lotus ponds and gardens. This movement mimics the visual and cooling effects of a rain shower multiple times each day. File contains drawings, photographs, and models.

Projet
CI005.S1.1925.PR3
Description:
Because of the shortage of social housing for low income families in Rotterdam, the city commissioned the Kiefhoek housing scheme and invited Oud to assist with designing the dwellings. The plans underwent several revisions: it was reduced from the planned construction of 300 buildings in 1925, to 291 dwellings in 1928. The revised complex consisted of two units of shops and dwellings and one dwelling with a hotwater boiler, as well as two warehouses. Oud revised the plans to accommodate 300 dwellings on the chosen site, incorporating existing features, such as the church and public garden, into the site. The site features two symmetric and curved shops facing the central estate street (Taverne et al. 2001, 274-277). Project series includes drawings of plans for site and units as well as photographs of exterior and interior views of Kiefhoek Workers' housing.

Projet
AP164.S1.1999.D4
Description:
The project series documents the design and construction of the general services building for the Universidad de Extremadura. In 1999, Abalos & Herreros in collaboration with Fomento won first prize at a competition held for enterprises. The firm identified this project as number 117. “Giving the hard climatic conditions, the building is wrapped in an artificial and natural dual filter of adjustable lattices surrounded by a ring a trees (Ginkos Bilobas) […] On the roof, two turrets house relaxation rooms for the teaching staff, rooms that open onto a garden surrounded by a training track, thus creating an open-air area with views over the lowlands of the [River] Guadiana and the city” (ARCH270971). In the documentation, the project is often referred to as “Edificio administrativo y de nuevas titulaciones de la Universidad de Extremadura” or “Administration building and new graduate facilities for the University of Extremadura”. The firm worked with Ángel Jaramillo, Uriel Fogué, Renata Sentkiewicz, Jacob Hense and Obiol y Moya for the account of the Consejería de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología, Junta de Extremadura. Documenting the project are presentation and working drawings, and photographic materials.
