Synthesizing the political and philosophical debates on personhood and drawing on a varied cast of thinkers that includes Simone Weil, Hannah Arendt, and Dr. Seuss, Lisa Siraganian uncovers the disturbing impact of this contemporary development. Awarding rights to robots and rivers all too easily becomes a legal tool to turn people into capital. When robot Sophia is made a citizen, “she” is transformed into a subject in the law without the corresponding legal duties that protect us from her. At the root of this trend is the US Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling that grants First Amendment rights to corporations as if they were individuals. Cette monographie explore les plus récentes créations photographiques et installatives de l’artiste Lucie Rocher. Elle présente deux corpus conçus pour se répondre en des lieux distincts : De part et d’autre (Centre CLARK, Montréal, 2024) et En places et lieux (DRAC Art actuel, Drummondville, 2024) sont deux expositions qui ont été réchéchies comme le miroir l’une de l’autre. La documentation photographique ainsi que les textes des trois auteur·e·s invité·e·s révèlent les échos imaginés entre ces deux espaces et temps de la création. Le titre de la monographie, fait appel à cette idée d’un ensemble constitué de deux éléments, en l’occurrence deux expositions inséparables et complémentaires pour être lues, vues et interprétées l’une au regard de l’autre.
