AP167.S1.SS3.001
Description:
This directory contains files documenting ONL's early experimentation with Virtools. It includes three interactive, game-like composition and player files. The first, titled Trans-ports, allows the user to manipulate a structure's shape and lighting. The skin of the structure can also be manipulated into streaming news headlines. The second, titled Variomatic, allows the user to customize a structure by manipulating its size, shape, color, and construction materials. The third, titled Web of North Holland, allows the user to investigate the geometries of a structure, and later allows the user to move an avatar resembling Kas Oosterhuis around inside the structure. There are also a small number of additional composition files which include drafts of a 3D structure, as well as stock Virtools composition files. Original directory name: "80 nemo to virtools conversion". Most common file formats: Waveform Audio (PCMWAVEFORMAT), JPEG File Interchange Format, Waveform Audio (WAVEFORMATEX), Unidentified, Hypertext Markup Language.

Projet
AP056.S1.1986.PR02
Description:
This project series documents an addition and renovations to Woodsworth College at the University of Toronto from 1986-1991. The office identified the project number as 18603. Before this work, the existing property consisted of four Victorian houses: the main College building at 119 St. George Street that had a large drill hall connected to the back, a house next to the drill hall, the Centre for Industrial Relations located at 121 St. Georges Street, and the Media Centre located at 123 St. Georges Street. This project consisted of interior renovations to the houses and the addition of an L-shaped building at the back of the property that connected to the drill hall and turned at the corner of the property towards the Media Centre house. This created a central courtyard in the centre of the property, between all the buildings. The new building was two storeys with an arcade toward the courtyard, a red brick facade and sheet metal roofing. This housed audio-visual rooms, editing rooms, offices and a workroom in the basement, classrooms and meeting rooms on the ground floor, and faculty offices, lounges and administrative areas on the second floor. A new entry tower and hall were constructed for the main College building. This building consisted of mechanical and electrical rooms in the basement, student spaces and administrative offices on the ground floor, and administrative offices and meeting rooms on the second and third floors. Barton Myers Associates worked as the consulting architects on this project. The project is recorded through drawings and photographic materials dating from 1986-1991. The drawings include sketches, drawings for the project model, sections, floor and site plans, elevations, details, axonometric drawings, perspectives, and structural drawings. There are a large number of detail drawings for furnishings and architectural elements. The photographic materials consist of aerial views and photographs of the finished project.

Description:
Series 2, Software for producing the projection and narration, 2007-2008, is composed of ten different versions of the module that generates the projection and narration in the open gallery. Seven of the versions were among the files saved to a compact disc following the CCA exhibition and have been kept together as group ARCH275207. Three of the versions were on a hard drive that was used in Rovereto and comprise group ARCH275212. The core elements of each module are two application files. One of these, whose name begins with "VE1" uses parameters contained in a file called "config.txt". The other application file, called "VECalibration" displays the entire volume of the projected architectural space. The geometric parameters for a room are recorded in a separate image file called "ecan-angles.jpg". A readme file in each module explains how the different files interact with one another. It also identifies the version of the "VE1" application files and any issues that may be related to the version. Each module includes hundreds of Shockwave Flash files (.swf), each containing an animated or still image of a person or persons and/or one or more pieces of furniture. Some of the .swf files contain an image of one or more furnished rooms inhabited by one or more persons. In most versions, the config.txt file contains a URL that accesses the database containing the sensor data. The URL references the file "captorsxml.aspx". As mentioned earlier, the config.txt file also contains parameters for the projected image, including scene geometry, colors and space occupation, and lists of the .swf files for persons and objects. Most versions of the module also include twenty-one .mp3 files, one of which is "empty". The other twenty each contain an audio recording of a female voice that states values for temperature, illumination and relative humidity and narrates a scenario written by Alain Robbe-Grillet. There is a French- and English-language version of each scenario

O.C.H. Feasibility Study
AP144.S2.D59
Description:
File documents a feasibility study commissioned by J. Lyons Co. Ltd for the conversion of the Oxford Corner House, in London, England, United Kingdom, into a combined information, education and skill centre. The unrealized project was to include a 'self-pace public skill and information hive' with facilities for conferences, teaching, exhibitions, computer use, planetarium, audio-visual library, and public eating areas. The project included a movable floor system and projection screens. Reference material includes plans and details of London Electric Railway subway line, alterations to Oxford Street Corner House by J. Lyons and Co. Ltd., field notes, photographs and photomontages of site. Conceptual diagrammatic plans explore designs for the organization of activities. Charts show variables, including number of people, monitors/screens, and study carrels; circulation patterns; and maximization of viewing capacity. Preliminary presentation boards illustrate project feasibility and include photographs of model and existing conditions. Design development drawings include floor plans, plans exploring the relationships between various activities, analysis of building volumes and networks, comparative plans showing main structural grid, sections, diagrammatic sections for public activity areas, axonometric drawings of roof, perspectives of projection screens and moveable floor system, progress charts, and diagrams and graphs of communication and travel modes, routes, and time into central London from outlying areas. Some material in this file was published in Price, Cedric. 'Cedric Price-Works II' (London: Architectural Press, 1984), 11, 54, 112; Landau, Royston. 'New Directions in British Architecture'. New York: George Braziller, 1968. 108-111; and 'Self-Pace Public Skill and Information Hive.' 'Architectural Design'. (May 1968), 237-239. Material in this file was produced between 1927 and 1967, but predominantly between 1965 and 1966. Group DR1995:0224:001-013 contains reference drawings attributed to London Transport Architect's Department and J. Lyons & Company Limited Architect's Office. Group DR1995:0224:333-341 contains drawings attributed to Richard Sutcliffe Limited, Felix J. Samuely & Partners, and G.E.C. (Process Engineering) Ltd. File contains conceptual drawings, consultant drawings, design development drawings, presentation drawings, presentation panels, reference drawings, photographic material, and textual records.
