Résumé:
The third volume in a four-part series on ALICE's teachings, ''Beyond the Object: The Imagination of Space'' follows up on ''The House 1 Catalogue'' and ''The Invention of Space'', proposing an alternative cultural history of architecture derived from the notion of spatial design rather than technical engineering and construction. Among the topics discussed are the common and scientific understandings of space and how they can be applied to contemporary architectural practice. Using Zurich as an exemplar of urban planning and development, the new volume combines fact with fiction to broaden the view upon future scenarios.

Résumé:
Based in Budapest, the Architecture Uncomfortable Workshop is an office that, in addition to planning small projects, always looks for ways to experiment. One of their biggest motivations is attempting to understand contemporary vernacular architecture as they continuously pursue situations where comfort meets real human needs. Their first monograph includes a conversation with founders Dénes Emil Ghyczy and Lukács Szederkényi, who began thinking and working together during their university days. The studio’s name refers to the fact that the spaces built by people are brought into being at the cost of significant physical labour, involving both sacrifice and conflict.

Résumé:
In past years, architects have been confronted with a changed market, changed sets of tasks and also new requirements. Which strategies can they adopt to get commissions or spark interest in their projects? With selected examples, the author analyses the processes of individual architects since the 1950s. Beginning with the commencement of marketing in the North American post-war era he proceeds to then cast his view to contemporary times. Transformations in society and politics, the changed requirements of clients, and also the crisis in the economy and financial circles all influence the professional existence of architects.

While the title might suggest a project about weather, the contributions address the forces of composition and decomposition predicated on the complex entanglements of ecologies of excess, environmental legacies of colonialism, the financialization of nature, contemporary catastrophism, and politics of sustainability, climate justice, and resilience.
