Résumé:
This publication invites the reader to learn about and from Maternal Fantasies ´ feminist research and collective artistic practice on motherhood(s), care work and representation in the arts. Composed of seven interdisciplinary artists / mothers and ten children, Maternal Fantasies takes the social invisibility of the maternal experience as a point of departure to produce films, images, and performances of fantastical visibility. Through personal writing exercises and collective performance scores, they align themselves with ancestral figures of feminist discourses and artmaking, in order to establish new vocabularies and narratives around the maternal for future generations. As both a handbook and an archive of feminist artmaking, this publication (re-)assembles maternal experiences, reflective essays, autobiographical writing, instructional scores, selected artworks, and a manifesto for a caring economy.

Created in Berlin around 15 years ago, this large-format collage book by Isa Genzken (born 1948) is both a personal diary and artistic manifesto. In it are portraits of the artist and her friends; clippings from advertisements and glamour magazines; male pinups; illustrations of fences and grates from animal enclosures; mostly bare trees, bushes and forests; columns, faces and strange details from the artist’s work and installations; postcards of historical paintings and handwritten notes. Genzken uses brown sticky tape and silver textured textile tape; black, blue, red and vibrant green neon papers give the book a dramatic structure, creating windows and doors with views in and out. The format of the pages gradually becomes larger throughout the course of the book, giving it an astounding physicality.

Over time, with industrialization and urban sprawl, we have driven nature out of our neighborhoods and cities. But we can invite it back by designing landscapes that look and function more like they do in the wild: robust, diverse, and visually harmonious. ''Planting in a Post-Wild World'' by Thomas Rainer and Claudia West is an inspiring call to action dedicated to the idea of a new nature—a hybrid of both the wild and the cultivated—that can ?ourish in our cities and suburbs. This is both a post-wild manifesto and practical guide that describes how to incorporate and layer plants into plant communities to create an environment that is re?ective of natural systems and thrives within our built world.

Résumé:
Appraising the 'tropical architecture' of Latin America, ''On specific ambiguity,'' authored by Colombian architect Camilo Retrespo (born 1973), is a manifesto-cum-monograph on the notion of tropical space. Retrespo argues for a form of architecture that 'accepts contradiction and ambiguity, as a space, as an attitude: Specific Ambiguity as a double way of thinking and creating an ambivalent, complex and contradictory, imprecise, mestizo, and multireferential architecture.' Retrespo is cofounder (with Juliana Gallego Martinez) of the Medellin-based firm AGENdA, and a large portion of this volume is devoted to a selection of works by the firm, mostly located in Medellin and Mexico. In 2020 AGENdA was selected as one of the most creative, interesting and promising emerging architects by Domus magazine.

Résumé:
Since its first publication in 1969, "Pioneers of Modern Typography" has been the standard guide to the avant-garde origins of modern graphic design and typography. In this essential reference, Herbert Spencer shows how new concepts in graphic design in the early decades of the twentieth century had their roots in the artistic movements of the time in painting, poetry, and architecture. Spencer examines the "heroic" period of modern design and typography, the beginning of which he traces to the publication in Le Figaro of the Italian artist Manetti's Futurist manifesto. He discusses the work of such "pioneers" as El Lissitzky, Alexander Rodchenko, and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. He examines the artistic background of the new concepts in graphic design, and traces the influences of futurism, Dadaism, de Stijl, suprematism, constructivism, and the Bauhaus.

Résumé:
Between 1937 and 1938, garden designer Christopher Tunnard published a series of articles in the British Architectural Review that rejected the prevailing English landscape style. Inspired by the principles of Modernist art and Japanese aesthetics, Tunnard called for a "new technique" in garden design that emphasized an integration of form and purpose. Tunnard's magazine pieces were republished in book form as Gardens in the Modern Landscape in 1938, and a revised second edition was issued a decade later. Taken together, these articles constituted a manifesto for the modern garden, its influence evident in the work of such figures as Lawrence Halprin, Philip Johnson, and Edward Larrabee Barnes. Long out of print, the book is here reissued in a facsimile of the 1948 edition, accompanied by a contextualizing foreword by John Dixon Hunt.

Résumé:
With the temporary exhibition pavilion of the German Reich at the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona, Mies van der Rohe designed an architectural icon, but also a controversial monument of the way the Weimar Republic portrayed itself. The building is one of the most unusual success stories in the history of architecture: Despite its short existence, its reputation grew steadily in the following decades, thanks in part to magnificent photographs. It was soon considered the constructed manifesto of the Modern Age, and its spatial and "ideational" ambitions were called "a milestone of Modern architecture." This comprehensively, broadly researched book portrays the building’s complex history and its political entanglement- up to and including its reconstruction according to van der Rohe’s plans at the original site between 1983 and 1986.

Résumé:
Part design manifesto, part personal diary, and part manual for future sustainable living, this book aims to replace rampant consumerism with a more thoughtful design, a new state of being for living sustainably and in harmony with the rhythms of the planet. It is the tale of one woman's odyssey living alone in the jungle finding true meaning in life and manifesting its beauty into a way of sustainable living that may set a blueprint for our future existence on Earth. The author leads readers to encounter a new paradigm by showing the luxury of simplicity and the beauty of small things. With our consumer way of living and doing things and how the world is evolving, the pace we follow as consumers rather than humans has become outdated.

Résumé:
Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal are known for an architecture that privileges inhabitants freedom and pleasure through generous, open designs. The Paris-based architects opened their 2015 lecture at Harvard University with a manifesto: study and create an inventory of the existing situation; densify without compressing individual space; promote user mobility, access, choice; and most importantly, never demolish. Freedom of Use reflects on these core values to present a fluid narrative of Lacaton and Vassal s oeuvre, articulated through processes of accumulation, addition, and extension. The architects describe built and unbuilt work, from a house in Niger made of little more than branches; to the expansive Nantes School of Architecture; to a public square in Bordeaux where, after months of study, their design solution was: do nothing.
