In "Between the eyes: essays on photography and politics", Strauss tackles subjects ranging from “Photography and Propaganda” to the imagery of dreams; from Sebastião Salgado’s epic social documents to the deeply personal photographic revelations of Francesca Woodman. Résumé:
There has been a groundswell of interest in modernist architecture in recent years, particularly buildings from the second half of the twentieth century. Individuals and groups are engaging with modernist environments in the form of popular histories, documentaries and community projects, and digital and social media. Alongside this growing popularity however, many of these buildings are under threat from demolition and regeneration. "Modern futures" explores these trends, their connections, and how more popular and creative engagements might be used to inform the uncertain future of modernist architecture.

Résumé:
This publication explores the intricate relationship between architecture and printed media in the fast-changing nineteenth century. Publication history is a rapidly expanding scholarly field which has profoundly influenced architectural history in recent years. Yet, while groundbreaking work has been done on architecture and printing in the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, and the twentieth century, the nineteenth century has received little attention. This is the omission that 'The Printed and the Built' seeks to address, thus filling a significant gap in the understanding of architecture's cultural history.

Never in the history of the human race have so many had so much to do in so little time. That, anyway, is the impression most of us have of civilized life at the end of the millennium, and Faster: The Acceleration of Just About Everything only sharpens it. Elegantly composed and insightfully researched, Faster delivers a brisk volley of observations on how microchips, media, and economics, among other things, have accelerated the pace of everyday experience over the course of the manic 20th century.
