Edited with Kathrin Bentele, Anna Gritz, and Ghislaine Leung.

Architecture is the perfect form of camouflage. As buildings recede into the background of everyday life, the myriad forces that shape our natural, social, and political landscapes hide in plain sight. Embedded within the spatial and material organizations of the built environment are ideas of value, hierarchy, and control that tilt the ground and influence perception in the name of endless competing interests. This issue of ''Perspecta'' considers the complexities and potentialities of architectural concealment, obfuscation, and mimicry; of the power inherent in architecture's expanding capacity as media. In the veiled extents of our physical and digital worlds, what is still not found?

Résumé:
Publishing is experiencing one of the most transformative phases in its history. In "Tactical publishing", a sequel to "Post-digital print", Alessandro Ludovico explores the forces driving this historical phase, highlighting the tremendous opportunities it presents. Our task, he believes, is to develop an alternative publishing system that transcends the dichotomy between paper and digital media. He focuses first on the two activities on which publishing is premised—reading and writing (with an emphasis onwriting machines and post-truth in the latter)—and then deconstructs the concept, proposing alternative strategies inspired by recent practices and unconventional uses of technology.

Résumé:
Video (television, film, the moving image generally) is today's most popular information medium. Two-thirds of the world's internet traffic is video. Americans get their news and information more often from screens and speakers than through any other means. "The moving image" is the first authoritative account of how we have arrived here, together with the first definitive manual to help writers, educators, and publishers use video more effectively. Drawing on decades as an educator, publisher, and producer, MIT's Peter Kaufman presents new tools, best practices, and community resources for integrating film and sound into media that matters.

Résumé:
Produced and designed by Joke Brouwer of the V2_Institute for the Unstable Media, this book presents new essays by nine contributors, among them Paul Frissen, Graham Harman, Luciana Parisi, Lars Spuybroek, and McKenzie Wark, plus artworks by Paolo Cirio, Wim Delvoye, Tomás Saraceno, and Diana Scherer. Two strategies (opacity and radiance) are developed against the Enlightenment ideal of transparency, since transformed into a global state of mediation and automation. Although they initially appear to be diametrically opposed, the strategies soon begin to overlap, together evolving into a kind of spook-phenomenology that opens up new ways of thinking and seeing.

Résumé:
Paper is a readily available and inexpensive sculptural media. Pliable, ephemeral and easily manipulated with simple tools, it is a medium with which the artist can form three-dimensional shapes quickly through precise folding and cutting. Artist Richard Sweeney leads you through the three stages of his process, from the initial conceptual stage (whether drawing on natural or architectural forms for inspiration), to the basic shapes (modular, in column, or dynamic), and finally to the folding techniques, curved folding, parallel pleating, faceted pleating and radiating pleating. The author also discusses tools and types of paper best suited for this art form.

Résumé:
This catalogue documents both the artworks and the almost 300 books on view at an eponymous exhibition at the Mechelen Cultural Centre. Featuring works by Jan Kempenaers, Kasper Andreasen, Aglaia Konrad, Ria Pacquée, Simon Popper, Mitja Tušek, and more, the artistic positions are set against an exhibition design conceived by Kris Kimpe and Koenraad Dedobbeleer, a kind of communal archive that systematically displays a selection of contemporary artists’ books. The works closely relate to the codex of the book as a medium for artistic expression, as well as to the different gestures of reproduction that are representative of artists working in various media.
